Optimum desktop addition method for latest Stretch Lite

Does this still hold true ? ( 3-B or 3-B+ )
On first login run updates and reboot:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo reboot
Then add the desktop package and reboot. Pixel desktop loaded after reboot:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install raspberrypi-ui-mods
sudo reboot

Re: ' Snappy ' response ......

fbturbo was already installed.
I notice most a lag with the mouse
If I scroll with the wheel ........
it seems to take some time for the
system to know what I'm doing ...
then it starts (and keeps up with)
the wheel .............

RPi 3B ( B + ? ) I have found ( NOT speaking of boot up time ) : The full desktop version of Raspbian is more responsive than Raspbian Lite with added desktop ( strangely ) RISCOS is way faster than either . Can Raspbian be sped up , or is there another faster , similar distro ? My Wife's B + seems ...

Thank You.
For now I will switch back to the Pi.

The only thing it will not do is run
my Woofer Tester and my favorite
Spice program.

Re: Can I use my RPi to make a bootable usb(pc)x86 Debian?

Thank You !
I'll just use the Jessie since I now use the RPi
as my ' workhorse ( even my wife now uses a second one ) '
and the x86 is purely experimental .

I know the PC will boot USB Linux because I've used other distros. It seems there is a big differance between the way the SD .img files work and the USB .iso ???...

I like the looks. I use my RPi's without cases,
but, I'm trying to convert my wife to RPi, and
