Re: Raspberry Pi 3 thermal/SD card woes

I did a test on it today (official pi3 case with just a heatsink, and it overheats and tries to throttle like crazy...and this is with the official case open on top and on the side). Imagine what happens with the case closed up. Okay, that makes it official the RPI 3 is badly designed with little t...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 thermal/SD card woes

The Pi3 has been pushed to the edge of it's manufacturing limitations. I'd say over the edge. The stock configuration can't handle compiling stuff on one core. But thanks for the input, I've ordered both the official PSU and the official heatsink. If it still crashes after that I'm getting the boar...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 thermal/SD card woes

You will need a 2.5 amp PSU... a 2 amp supply is insufficient. <sorry> edit: PS start over... get a new noobs card (16 Gb or more) and start clean... The RPI 3 uses up to 800 mA and there are no attached USB devices except for keyboard and a mouse. Starting over didn't help, I'm using the latest Ra...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 thermal/SD card woes

Hi. I have a Raspberry Pi 3 and an official Raspberry Pi 3 case. I'm using a Samsung Evo SD card along with it and a 2 amp PSU. I have the same exact setup as you and the same sdcard. It has been my experience doing stress and thermal /cooling tests that throttling is ineffective if the temp climbs...

Hmmmm Well, MarkHaysHarris777 is right, and I stand corrected (well at least on "push" vs "pull" debate), but he is still dead wrong on the "no need for a fan" (with a heatsink and in a case) ;) . :? Re: Raspberry freezes, debugging

What Pi is this? Pi3? What are you doing when it freezes? When it freezes have you tried (via keyboard) 'Alt'+'SysRQ'+'b'? Did you install NOOBS? Did you expand the file system? Do you have the proper power supply? Do you have it in a case? Do you have a heatsink on it? Do you have a fan on it? Did ...

Re: pi fan direction airflow question

If the fan is in the top of the case, then evacuate the case by pulling the air out. ...that said, a fan is generally speaking not necessary. If you have heatsinks on the chips that should be enough (I personally hate noisy little fans) I disagree (and especially disagree about the heatsink being e...

OK :/ I'm in an SSH console so i have no clock to look at... But I've been waiting for 90 minutes now ! The way I run linpack is I keep an eye on the clock (bottom right corne...

Do you have a benchmark please ? I have two: Sysbench with validated run, and Linpack bench : SYSBENCH Run sysbench on your overclocked Pi2, and compare your total time. Then you will answer you own question regarding performance of Stock Pi3 versus the Pi2 @ 1.1 GHz. For comparison, the Stock Pi2 ...

Re: using force_turbo vs installing cpufrequtils

Read the pseudocode. The warranty bit is only set if you simultaneously set over_voltage with any of the preceding three options. Therefore force_turbo=1 will not, by itself, set the warranty bit. So basically, let me see if I understand this (because everything seems to be referring to the PI2)......

Pi3 slow write to Sandisk Pixtor 64GB UHS-1 XC-1 cards?

I have been using a Samsung EVO+ SDHC 32GB card which averages around 20 MB/s Write, and 40 MB/s Read speeds. I figure I would get a larger capacity sdcard, so I acquired a Sandisk 64GB Pixtor SDXC. It is rated for speeds up to 80 MB/s read/write. It is super slow though, averaging around 13 MB/s Wr...

Re: RPi 3 SoC at nearly 100 °C, reporting 80 °C

For all those running stress tests and measuring CPU speed, make sure you are running to get your speed: # vcgencmd measure_clock arm | sed -e "s/frequency(45)=//g" rather than; # cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq First one shows the actual CPU frequency, the other is what t...
