Re: How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

@JacoFourie: if you don't want to use MAC addresses (because they are too specific) you could setup a file with a more generous rule specification (probably sufficient in your case): /etc/udev/rules.d/72-static-name.rules: ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="brcmfmac", NAME="wlan1" this allo...

Re: How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

Wow thanks for this. I will give a try. The general vendor method does not work. I saw the on-board and Edimax dongle still swap around. I agree with your post. We need a way to make sure that the adapters are always the same as we have setup a image with everything we need. We then flash this image...

Hi. I did use shielded twisted pair wire also. Still it will reboot if inside the case.

Re: Pi 3 as wiireless client and wireless AP?

Hi. I was talking more about your wireless set-up. Not just the names. How to set-up AP and client on Stretch that works 100%
We want to use the on-board as AP and the dongle as client (if in range of a wifi network)

Run/Reset pins will reset the Pi if I close solenoid valves.

Hi all. I hope somebody can help me as I have something strange going on. I have build a control cabinet using Ardiono and Raspberry Pi. The Pi is the brain. It has a database on and it hosts a web app that sends commands to the Arduino. The Arduino is the muscle, it has 4 RH probes to read the Rela...

Re: How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

No we need both.

We want to set-up the on-board as an AP and the dongle as the client.
If the pi is in a wifi hot spot it should connect to the network.
But if it is not then we want to be able to connect to the Pi's AP and then control it that way.

Re: How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

OK so I will leave eth0 alone and only config wlan0 and wlan1.
The problem is we want to get to a general image that we use on a lot of pi's. This solution will mean that we have to edit each image before it is rolled out as the MAC will be diffrent on each Pi.

"2. for explicit assignments create a file '/etc/udev/rules.d/72-xxx.rules'. A sample for this looks like this: "

I want to know can I call the rules file 72-static-name.rules

Thanks for the help.

Re: How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

there are 2 things to do: 1. switch off this 'predictable naming' crap. all it really does is to give unpredictable names unless you once had a chance to see the given interface names on a booted system. if you want back predictable names like eth0, eth1, wlan0, wlan1, wlan2 just do: ln -s /dev/nul...

Re: Softether set-up on Raspbian [Solved]

What I did to get it working was this. 1) Install the VPN. 2) Create a TAP device using the server manager software from a windows PC. I called my Tap "tap_1". 3) Configure a bridge using linux command between the tap and eth0 Have a look at this https://wiki.debian.org/BridgeNetworkConnections My I...

@sora03: I have a working ap and client using two wifi devices with different chipsets on a RPi3.

If you are going to attempt this, I highly recommend using predictable interface names.
Can you please share your set-up.

Re: How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

Hi. I don't want to give it new names. I need it to stay the same way all the time. wlan0 should always be the on-board and wlan1 should be the dongle.

How do you force a wifi interface to be a certain wlanX?

Hi all. I use 2 WiFi configs on my Pi. 1) The on-board WiFi (wlan0) 2) WiFi dongle (wlan1) What I have seen is that these 2 will swap randomly and then the on-board will become wlan1 and the dongle will be wlan0. How can I stop this from happening? We use the Pi in a steel cabinet and the on-board s...

Re: Pi 3 as wiireless client and wireless AP?

Yes they are on the same subnet using 2 ips. Normally the eth0 is not connected. But I connected it for a fail save as the Pi is headless. It seems that I am connecting to the client ip via the lan cable and not the wifi. I removed the default gateway from the eth0 config and only left it on wlan1. ...

OK so everything works 100% if I have the eth0 cable plugged in. I can connect to the AP and I see all I want to see on the 10.64.9.0 subnet. I can also connect to the pi from a pc on the network using 10.64.9.77 which is the client wifi IP. But as soon as I unplug the eth0 cable the wifi link will ...
