GPIO pin device overlay?

My initial goal was to set GPIO pin 21 to low at boot. Basically there is a solenoid on the pin and it needs to stay off unless told otherwise. I did accomplish this with a dts file, but it seems the right way to do it now is with an overlay. I've done a lot of reading on the overlay and, get more c...

Re: Pi3 UART stopped working? Read this.

How does this effect the blob that defines pins 14/15 for serial use? I think I answered this: "Note that if a custom dt-blob is in use that remaps pins 14 & 15 to something other than TXD0/RXD0 (even on a Pi3 - don't hard-code TXD1/RXD1) then the pin function is left unchanged to allow, for exampl...

Re: Pi3 UART stopped working? Read this.

@drmacro No, but it will be soon. One thing I'm a bit confused on...well lots of things but that a different topic. :) How does this effect the blob that defines pins 14/15 for serial use? If I want to set the boot behavior for say, pin 21, do I need to include all the rest of the pins that I'm not...

Re: PI 3 and dts blob ignored

Does appear those links are describing my issue.

I'll have a look at the firmware version again and probably re-read those two links.

The forum post says: "In time it will roll out to apt-get upgrade and a full Raspbian release."

Any idea if this has happen since the post (Mar 21, 2016 4:21 pm)?

Re: PI 3 and dts blob ignored

After much messing around I've determined I am getting serial data (from /dev/ttyS0), but...

The data appears to be wrong. The first byte of the data should be x02, but is x91.

The baud rate is specified correctly.

I'm missing something, but, I'm at loss as to what. :?

Re: PI 3 and dts blob ignored

Hmm...I guess my other question is if the "uart0" is still mapped to "/dev/ttyAMA0"?

(Since that's the port being called in the code that worked before...)

Re: PI 3 and dts blob ignored

This is the output of raspi-gpio get for 14 & 15: GPIO 14: level=1 fsel=2 alt=5 func=TXD1 GPIO 15: level=1 fsel=2 alt=5 func=RXD1 and this is what's in the dts file: [email protected] { function = "uart0"; termination = "no_pulling"; drive_strength_mA = < 8 >; }; // TX uart0 [email protected] { function = "uart0"; term...

Re: PI 3 and dts blob ignored

I did an dist_upgrade and it seems to be working for pin 21.

But, now the serial port seems to be missing...hmm

Re: PI 3 and dts blob ignored

Thanks for the info.

Yes, the blob file had nothing for PI 3.

But, I added the section for PI3 1.2 and still no change in the pin at boot.

Firmware date Feb 1 2016. Confirmed use dts is activated...

Is the PI version checked at boot? I'm using an SD that was previously in a PI 2.

PI 3 and dts blob ignored

Hi,
I'm trying to change the default of the GPIO pin 21 on a PI 3.
So far, nothing I put in the dts file seems to have any effect.

I note there doesn't seem to be a section specifically for the PI 3.

Also, is the latest raspbian setup to use dts by default?

Regards,
Mac

Re: Pi Presents: Beta of a major upgrade now available

Hi Ken,

I see a question about fades was posed in 2013, I'm curious if there has been any change in status since then?

Regards,
Mac
