D-Link 7-Port USB 2.0 Hub (DUB-H7)

Well I have just received my D-Link 7-Port USB 2.0 Hub (Model#: DUB-H7). First thing is first. Reading the instructions alludes to the fact that there are two 'fast charging ports' that deliver 1.2A of power. I found out that this will only take effect when the computer is 'off' or not connected. Wh...

Re: Anyone have wifi dongle without external power?

You're probably getting lower bandwidth with the wireless for two reasons 1) Interference from 30+ other wireless networks 2) Overhead built into the Ethernet protocol. Even when I do iperf through my Pi on it's native 100Mbps wired ethernet interface to my desktop computer with only a router betwee...

Re: Dlink dub-h4 -- Any feedback at all?

None personally but I'm going based off of what is said in http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeriphera ... m_USB_Hubs

I upgraded my firmware and distro (debian squeeze) so I'll let you know first hand when it arrives tomorrow.

700mA is the minimum the Pi needs thus it should work. Good luck with modifications.

I ordered a DUB-H7 which has some issues but I'm hoping an upgraded firmware and distro remove all issues.

Re: USB 2.0/1.1 ?-- Connecting different USB Versions

Well from what I understand... The USB ports work at their own speed. If you plug a USB1.1 peripheral in it'll work at it's own speed. Basically it's like a small network. Capacity is only used when it's needed. So your USB Wifi dongle if it's an N pobably uses 100-150Mbps. a USB2.0 port can handle ...

Re: What power supply?

So, 5V/2A is the best option that we can choose... If I want to use my external HD (Transcend Storejet 2.5" USB) with my RPi, it's ok a 5V/700mA power adapter? Well considering the requirements state 5V/700mA it should work. Remember that about 500mA is required to run the CPU itself and the other ...

Re: USB 3 for file-system

Very good...

Although I would say it's probably falling back to USB2.0 speeds because that's all the RPi is capable of supporting. Still USB2.0 speeds are damn fast (like 480Mbps) whereas true USB3.0 speeds would be more like 3Gbps (same speeds as SATA2)

Re: SD size to setup a web server

I dont think the class makes a huge difference (the only reason classes are introduced is that some cameras with lots of Megapixels and digital camcorders need faster than normal write times... All things being equal (including price) go for the higher class though. Also I MAY be a bit off on my num...

Re: USB-Ethernet adapters should work ok?

Actually I'd be willing to bet wired ethernet doesnt require as much mA to run as wireless ethernet. The reasoning behind this.... http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=10482 As well wireless dongles have to transmit a signal in a broadcast form. A Wired connection is more efficient...

Re: SD size to setup a web server

Well considering that when you unpack the Debian Squeeze image file it uses 1.9 GB... Also taking into account updating firmware (since it updates on the SD card, NOT on the Pi itself something I found out messing around with it) as well as running the updates (sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get d...

USB Wifi Dongles and Power Usage

So yeah I know the RPi Model B requires 5V/700mA to run and this accounts for 200mA of power going to the USB ports (for Keyboard/Mouse). I also noticed that in the wiki people are using 5V/2A adapters. I was wondering if you use a more powerful power supply to give power to the Pi if it's possible ...

Good job!

Also when I tested iperf on my Pi's native 100Mbps interface it showed about 75Mbps (i'm guessing it's common to see anywhere from 10-25% overhead)

Well considering the requirements state 5V/700mA it should work. Remember that about 500mA is required to run the CPU itself and the other 200mA are designed to be used by the USB ports for low powered peripherals like keyboard/mouse. Now the question is since many people are reporting other higher ...

Peripheral Problems Easily Solved

The biggest problem with peripherals is the lack of suitable power to drive them. You can only use some low powered USB devices like keyboards (plain no fancy usb ports on them or LCD screens, etc..), Mouse and probably USB Flash Drives. The easiest way to troubleshoot problem peripherals is by buyi...

This is also a more ideal situation. My wire connection is about 2-3 feet long between the Pi and th...

Re: Very Low Network Bandwidth with USB Network Dongle

Given you are mentioning 100Mbps wireless dongle I'll assume it is using the Wireless N (802.11n) standard rather than Wireless G (802.11g) standard. However, if you are using a Wireless N dongle to connect to a Wireless G Router it can and will fall back and use Wireless G speeds. Another thing tha...
