Re: USB hub with power switches...

This is an interesting concept... I like it. I wonder if it follows spec because I know some badly done Hubs leak current back to the Pi and such.

It looks like something is blocking your sunlight between Noon and 6pm... Unless ofcourse your battery charger is stopping from overcharging or something...

Voltage measurements are basically measuring how full the battery is right? I dont work with batteries very often myself.

I'd rather keep my Pi AND not deal with any 'Big Brother' crap. The thing I like about the emailing idea is that the owner can choose whether or not to use it. :D The duct taping of cables is brilliant because it's cheap, easy and you can make it look as if it's health and safety rather than ...

Re: Rainbow screen on every reboot

I think the 'Rainbow Square' is basically like a test pattern. It's there to troubleshoot graphics problems because if you dont see it then you have a problem with your graphics. Probably just a different way the raspbian group have of doing things compared to the debian group.

Actually Run Level 1 is usually used as Single User, Command Line without Networking running. It's used for maintenance tasks since the single user is typically Root.

Re: Power the Raspberry Pi over a powered USB Hub?

1) Standard USB Port delivers 5V @ 500mA of power (2.5 Watts) 2) By spec the Pi requires 700mA to function correctly 500mA will get the CPU running. Thus most people will want to use a USB Y cable so it can draw power from 2 ports so it'll receive the 700mA required. 3) Make sure you got a Hub that ...

Probably because athletic sports are usually pretty far removed from academic pursuits.

Also if you walked around waving your RPi around you might get mistaken for a bomber or terrorist by ill trained forces ;)

Re: D-Link DUB-E100

Yeah it's my opinion that anyone who buys a RPi should make sure they have a powered USB hub... At least at this stage so that people can make sure they can test and make sure things are working. Perhaps on the wiki we should be specifying what works with the Pi's native USB ports and what needs a p...

eth0 is most likely your native 100Mbps interface that comes built into you Raspberry Pi. eth1 is most likely your DUB-E100. I'm going to assume this is a wired connection. First off is it connected. Most network hardware will not show link lights without there being a wire and data going across it....

Well, the problem is probably that the RPI board can't so to current required both for WLAN and BT on the ports. It's short circuting. I was actually using a USB Hub... That said it looks like the latest version of Raspbian has support for the ASUS USB-BT211. (I've also got my EW-7811Un working too...

Well maybe my math is off but either way with a 80AH battery and a 45W Solar Panel you've got more than enough excess power at your disposal to handle night times and cloud cover to make it to the next sunny day. ;) Also if using a battery you might not want to use a car battery. Actually looking at the specs it's respectable range... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth#Uses) Class 1 = 100mW = 100meters (I'm a bit skeptical of 100m claim myself) Class 2 = 2.5mW = 10 Meters Class 3 = 1mW = 1 Meter (I know the wiki article says 5m but many other places say 1m) Of course i...

The last item in the Raspbmc FAQ states that they are using a recent firmware and that generally I should not be mucking around with it. http://www.raspbmc.com/wiki/user/frequently-asked-questions/ IMHO They're doing early adopters a disservice because in many cases updating the firmware actually s...

Re: Web Server running only on Solar Power

I've done some math for the RPi solar powering... The RPi uses 700mA (maybe less maybe more). This means you need a battery wih at least 24H * 700mA = 16,400 mAh (MilliAmp Hours) so that it can run for a full day without generating any power. You may want to increase this even more. You may want to ...

cp/mv would do the job ;)

All you need is a shell script to fire when you plug the stuff in.

If you were going to be able to connect to a TV and have a keyboard I'd say dispense with the need for all that and just use the command line to move things over.
