Re: Necessary Power Supply?

What about a maximum? I found a solar-powerbank quite cheap, but it is 5V 3A. Will that damage the Pi?

Re: New NOOBS doesn't contain OpenElec installer?

It's great, I tried it and it works perfectly. I had less trouble with openElec as with OSMC, in particular I could easily change my keyboard to AZERTY, which didn't work with OSMC. And in OSMC I had tvheadend-errors which I don't have in OpenElec.

Thanks!

Re: Trouble installing RISCOS on Pi3

I guess the RiscOS image will be updated to address the problems? I'll wait for that to happen, and then try it. (I want to try RiscOs since Raspbian seems too slow, although nobody really comments on that. I expect RiscOS has less software available, so even if it's faster, I'm afraid I won't find ...

Re: Main Menu Editor doesn't update

The problem with the menu not updating is the following: The Raspbian OS uses /usr/share/raspi-ui-overrides/applications as a place to store the desktop files (and those are the ones that get into menus). When installing stuff, a lot of intallers store the desktop files in the default location, whic...

Re: Main Menu Editor doesn't update

Ah! Thank you. That's part of a solution, yes. I'm also looking for the solution of the problem: new installed programs don't appear in the menu, and when you use the editor, they're checked to appear. And vice versa: unchecked programs DO appear. I guess editing the file you mention would be a way ...

This is a typical technology / conception / description error..... Example is you install say a Gnome developed software, do you need all of Gnome to run it, actually one does not. e-ink display useability

Hi, I would like some feedback on the following: Would it be possible and pleasant to use the e-ink display as working desktop display? I was thinking about the low power need and the good viewability in sunlight. Black and white is perfect for e-mail and browsing for information. Also possible for ...

Re: Terms and concepts

The goalposts shift with every reply. The original question was about windows manager, that evolved into 'modern' apps, which now has morphed into syncing calendars and address book across multiple devices. Are unicorns and ponies the next requirement? That would be fun! Well, it doesn't seem so st...

Re: OpenGL not working on Pi 3

This helped me to get past the black screen (before, I re-installed Raspbian, because I didn't know else what to do :-) ): I would recommend you use a clean installation of Noobs while trying out OpenGL software as it allows you to easily edit the Config.txt file and deactivate the drivers if your d...

Raspbian installers don't work, NOOBS does

Hello, I re-formatted my SD-card a few times to put a different version of the installers on it. The Noobs , lite or not, work, but Raspbian "pure", lite or not, doesn't. I get a " Kernel panic " at the end of the start-up. I don't know what that is, but clearly not very healthy. Is this an individu...

Re: Terms and concepts

Which suggests to me that the window manager isn't the limiting factor, the 'modern' apps are.
Having a calendar and address book in sync on all your devices, is quite useful for me. Of course a notebook and fysical calendar would work as well. Is that your suggestion?

About the openGL 3D driver I found this: I would recommend you use a clean installation of Noobs while trying out OpenGL software as it allows you to easily edit the Config.txt file and deactivate the drivers if your display goes blank. Re: Terms and concepts

You may get more speed and functionality by using CDE (desktop from the '90s). This forum thread suggests it is can be run on the Pi. I read that thread, and I read there: General comments on CDE are that the desktop environment itself and the applications that come with it run very quickly (but yo...

Thank you very much, pingpong2012! I was already getting suspicious, that no-one would answer questions about performance. I reïnstalled Raspbian and now the 3D driver seems to work, though. It's no problem I can't play Tux or any other game, but I was afraid there was something wrong with my Raspbe...

Terms and concepts

I googled (in fact, Ecosiad: http://www.ecosia.org ) myself some linux-knowledge, since I was a little confused by all the new vocabulary. This is the resume: Raspbian is the OS (operation system). Raspbian is a port of Debian (made for Raspberry Pi). (Alternatives are Ubuntu or Fedora, these are Li...

Re: What to expect (how powerful is the Raspberry?)

Thank you ghans. I tried using the 3D driver, but that made my system flash black screens/freezes and freeze completely after a few minutes. I was reading the Q&A and at the top they say something about using a new raspberry power suplly ( 2,5 A ), I bought mine like 2 weeks ago (2 A). Could that m...

Raspberry too slow?

I posted questions about the performance of my Raspberry Pi before, but I didn't got a clear answer. I don't mind it being a little slower then an average computer, but it's just a little too slow to be useable in my opinion. The reactions to my questions before where promising. So I'm afraid there ...
