Re: _ip_addresses

Thanks for that Paeryn, although I'm not feeling the waves of enlightenment washing over me that I was expecting.
I'm sure it has a use and can be coerced into returning something given the right invocation parameters.
Anyone got an example of its use?

_ip_addresses

I searched. I got :- Search found 2961 matches: "_ip_addresses" ignored: ip Not really encouraging. I was looking for something and I couldn't remember the name of it. So I typed _i and hit tab, it tab-completed to _ip_addresses So I hit return and it gave me a prompt back. I tried :- cat _ip_addres...

Re: ip address

I agree to a point Bosse_B. I've never had dhcp give out an ip that was already active on the network but it may well be that I've just been lucky all my life. But to be on the safe side, as you say, choose an address in the same subnet that is outside the pool used by dhcpd and that you are sure is...

moar screen than reality

So I have this movie, real letterbox aspect ratio. Left to its own devices, it plays at 1920x800. Now thinks me, if I hang the edges over the edge of the screen a bit, I can get to the point where it is 1080 high and looks better on the TV. So I did a bit of calculating and decided how much needed t...

Re: rpi-update

Thanks Guys, I just copied the 13 files out of the boot partition to a folder on the hdd, deleted the 13 files off the sd card and then copied them back.

Unsure how this affected a cure but cure it it did.

No repaint.

In Raspbian. I use omxplayer and have done for a while. Just recently, in the last week, I ran apt-get upgrade and now when omxplayer finishes, the screen no longer gets repainted. Moving the mouse around, uncovers the original window contents, as does minimising and then restoring the window. Is th...

Re: FTP server-twoftpd

I use winscp (http://winscp.net) from my windows pc to copy files back and forth from the pi.
Other than being a bit slow in transferring big files, it works every time and doesn't need anything installing on the pi.

clunk on audio

Is there any way to stop the huge clunk which almost blows the cones out of the speaker when something starts to play a sound?

It's the same on both of my pi(s), so I guess it must be the same for everyone.

I'm using the 3.5mm jack, as my monitor doesn't have sound.

Re: Charging devices from Raspberry Pi

Not really, no.
Unless you use a powered hub and charge from that.
The Pi USB port can't supply much power at all, and plugging in a device that draws too much power just crashes it in my experience.

rpi-update [solved]

After running sudo rpi-update, I get to the bit where it says, "Updating firmware (this will take a few minutes)". How long is a few minutes and is an hour long enough? It worked in November but it doesn't do anything today. I've upgraded the raspbian with sudo apt-get upgrade but rpi-update still h...
