Re: analog Sound Raspberry PI 4 is mono, not stereo

OK, just an update. The post title is a little misleading. It should perhaps be 'analog Sound RASPBIAN is mono, not stereo.' I just slipped the Raspbian boor microSD out of the Pi 4 and plugged in the Manjaro one. Left the Raspbian SSD connected as always so I could access exactly the same Left chan...

Re: resize SSD partition

I did not use mSSD, I used SATA SSD and an adapter cable. But I plugged the cable into my Pi 4 USB 3 port, and used 'Accessories' > SD card Copier to copy my microSD card with Buster on it, to the SSD. Then I followed the instructions on this forum to make a small /boot microSD, and modify some file...

Re: VLC 4K freeze

by dandan21 » Wed Nov 27, 2019 7:29 am Hi, I'm trying to play 4K movies with VLC in Pi4 and it freezes. Any special settings i should use? Any guides on how to set up 4k player for Pi4? Thanks dom, as you know I have been trying out the 'testing' version of VLC playing videos using Chromium to open...

Re: power up raspberry 4 with 2 hdd

OK, I'll answer this one from experience, and although I am not using a powered split SATA adapter the method is similar enough to give you an answer. I 'could' take a photo, but it looks so messy the description is easier to follow. I have a WD 240GB SSD plugged into one of the USB 3 ports using a ...

Re: analog Sound Raspberry PI 4 is mono, not stereo

"Seeing" and "Hearing" are not the same
Thank you. That is similar to the clip I was looking for. And altough ALSA still shows Mono, and Pulse now shows Stereo since the config edit. The sound is still only coming from one channel. :)

Re: Pi4: Chromium Browser Causes frequent hangs (5 seconds or so duration)

PS Chromium also has an unpleasant problem of computer “freezing” during frequent viewing of video. I still don’t know how to solve this problem, If you mean freezing playing video from a site like YouTube, I was getting frustrated by Chromium either freezing, or continually buffering. gkreidl solv...

Re: analog Sound Raspberry PI 4 is mono, not stereo

Did the following. Opened file /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/default.conf Commented out mono mode. Thank you for that little 'gem'. I commented out the whole mono section (by mistake) and now pavucontrol is showing Analog Stereo output :D I had better go back and see what I need to ...

Re: Sound analog Raspberry PI 4...

In Raspbian Busty my ALSA settings seem to show the output as Mono. I tried a fresh install to SD and it also seems to be Mono, so it doesn;t seem to be a result of installing pulseaudio on my main drive. pulseaudio and pavucontrol show the output as Analog Mono, and I found a sound test somewhere (...

Re: VLC testing

I've got incredibly clear, sharp video streaming on Chromium with Chromium calling VLC output via ytdl server. But as dom and others pointed out, it is streaming H264, not H265. But according to this codec info in VLC when the same video is trying, and failing, to play off the SSD, my particular Pi ...

Re: Pi4: Chromium Browser Causes frequent hangs (5 seconds or so duration)

Yes ! I had exactly the same problem. It is mentioned on another topic. I tried swapping my Sandisk Ultra microSD for a brand new Samsung EVO Plus card in case my old card was corrupt. It did nothing. But, I put in a little spare Sandisk card. Plugged in an SSD with Buster on it to a USB 3 port, and...

Re: Black border on screen of HDMI2

If you recently changed from 32 bit to 64 bit, but are plugged into the same monitor or TV, especially if it is UHD, consider checking your TV menu for something like 'Aspect Ration' under the Picture part of the Menu. My UHD TV came with a default setting, I think it was something like 19:10. I tri...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

So far, the only real advantage (for me) I can see to USB boot, 'might' be if that freed up the microSD for writing data. At the moment, using /boot on microSD and running off the SSD, start up from power on, to being able to open a program happens before I get back to my chair. I hope whatever is d...

Re: VLC testing

if you paste the URL into VLC, play it and open the codec information you will see that it is using the 720p resolution and a H264 codec version So can someone explain how VLC manages to stream at 720p in such amazing detail. Surely it has to do with the Hardware of the Pi 4, but that doesn;t expla...

Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

What sort of temps are you getting? Mine ran hot on a 128GB Samsing EVO Plus microSD, but is back to averaging 45-48 (by the display in the panel next to the clock) when running on SSD. If I switch back to a microSD, my temps are up closer to 60 again at times. This of course, is with a fan. Of cour...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

I tend to think in terms of using the one RPF supported OS - Raspbian, for which there's no problem with kernels/modules. I've never proposed trying to boot other OS's via an SD card I like to have one SSD with all my data but switch between operating systems. I've been doing that for over 20 years...

I had to laugh at that reply. I worked with people with disabilities before I had my first. I used to do reduced rates for all my computer work for organisations and for individuals up to a certain point. After that point I would often not charge at all if I had been getting sufficient ordinary work...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

Sure, needing to use a MicroSD card for the initial boot stages is a downside. Yet I can readily live with that for now. Please don't take this as argumentative. It is just a question. What would be the downside of using a microSD card for the initial boot stages? Other than that with a purely SSD ...

I just installed it after adding the source and doing the update/dist-upgrade. I thought that too a couple of months ago, but I couldn't get it to work previously with cups and IPP. And there's no mention of it in the specifications or searching Brother support. Nor any luck trying all the other methods people seem to have tried. The armhf driver for that particular printer do...

Re: Raspi and Brother Printer?

You can also install the cups-pdf package which sets up a PDF virtual printer on your system. When you print to it you end up with a pdf file in ~/PDF/ from any application. [/quote Agreed, but Raspbian and most other Linux distros have print as pdf by default or save as pdf under the print menu fo...
