Re: Raspberry Jam in Gloucestershire / Cheltenham / Gloucest

We now have a name, a domain and a Facebook Group. We are Cotswold Jam. http://cotswoldjam.org ...which at the moment just takes you direct to our Facebook page. The page is public so if you're under 13, or just generally object to signing up for Facebook (fair enough), you should still be able to s...

Re: Raspberry Jam in Gloucestershire / Cheltenham / Gloucest

Okay, this going to proceed pretty fast on the grounds that my ( http://www.hesa.ac.uk ) IT director & CEO have just approved us using our conference room on Cheltenham Promenade on Saturdays or Sundays. That gives us a proper professional venue for 20-50 people (photo: http://aoakley.com/images/hes...

Raspberry Jam in Gloucestershire / Cheltenham / Gloucester

I would be interested in helping start a Raspberry Jam in the Gloucester / Cheltenham area. However I do not have enough spare time to organise / run it entirely on my own. Ideally I'd be looking for one or two other well-organised people to make up a core "Gloucestershire Jam" team. About me: * 42,...

Re: Using PIR motion sensor on Pibrella - where's Ground?

Thanks for the answers, folks. In summary, the full answer is, on a Pibrella you can wire up a 3-wire detector such as a HC-SR501 PIR motion sensor with: * Motion sensor VCC to Pibrella Out E+ * Motion sensor OUT to Pibrella In A- * Motion sensor GND to Pibrella Out E- You need to remember to turn o...

Fisheye / wide-angle lens in Lidl Mon 29 Sept

Just a heads up, there is a fisheye / wide-angle lens on sale in Lidl UK from next Monday (29 Sept) for a fiver, which appears to be almost identical to the one Pimoroni are selling for £12+postage. http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=16676&ar=4 Lidl are also doing an 8...

bash bug / shell shock now fixed on Raspbian

The well-publicised vulnerability in bash appears to have been fixed in Raspbian some time in the last couple of hours (after 9am, before 1pm Thu 25 Sept 2014 BST). Thank-you to the Raspbian, Foundation and/or other staff that have done this so quickly. If your Pi is connectable from the outside wor...

apt-get update fails; Wolfram repo down

It looks like the Wolfram apt repository is currently down. One of the symptoms of this problem is that sudo apt-get update will currently error out with "Could not connect to repository.wolfram.com:80 (140.177.204.60), connection timed out". Here are some pings and traceroutes which may help Wolfra...

Using PIR motion sensor on Pibrella - where's Ground?

Hi, I plan to use a standard PIR motion sensor in conjunction with a Pibrella (because I want to use the Pibrella's other LEDs, buzzer, inputs and outputs for other things too). The PIR sensor has three connectors; VCC, OUT and Ground. The Pibrella's inputs have only two female pins; +ve and -ve. Th...

Removing JTAG header from old B rev 1

I have an old Model B rev 1 which I would dearly like to enclose in a Pimoroni Coupé case (yes, they do one for the old B now, not just the B+). The Coupe case does not fit the Brev1 due to the JTAG header. My experience with desoldering is limited. I can point a soldering iron at a connector, and f...

screen: pam_unix(screen:auth): authentication failure; loop

Hi. I am a huge fan of GNU Screen and I have one of my Raspberry Pis set up as basically a terminal server that I SSH in to from wherever I happen to be. However after my Pi has been merrily running for a few days, the CPU usage rises to 100 - 125% and I get thousands and thousands of the following ...

Re: What's the script used to show IP at login?

Cheers. How disappointingly simple. I've switched from using Network Manager ( /etc/network/interfaces ) to using wicd-curses & wicd-cli (because reconfiguring NM every time I visit a new location is a pain... wpa_supplicant is only good if you already know *exactly* all the network details such as ...

Re: What's the script used to show IP at login?

I could look at it if I had a spare SD card to uncompress a recent Raspbian onto... all four of my Pis & SD cards are currently in use and predate this feature! (It doesn't get added by dist-upgrade)

Maybe I'll just have to mount the image on a local loop and have a look at it there.

What's the script used to show IP at login?

Hi, I note that recent releases of Raspbian now display the IP address on the console before the login prompt. My questions are, please: * Where is this script located and what is it called? * How is it triggered? /etc/rc.local ? /etc/network/if-up.d ? /etc/rc.n runlevel? * What is it doing? Manipul...

Re: Raspy thin client based on x2go

Note that the x2goclient packages are now available in Raspbian. There is no longer any need to use the pre-built zip in this thread unless you specifically want your Pi to be solely an X2Go thin client. To use X2Go from the normal Raspbian distribution (i.e. with LXDE desktop): * Set up your remote...
