Re: OpenELEC meets Raspberry Pi - part 1 (XBMC)

Hi all, I'm beginning to look into building and installing OpenELEC on my Pi, but am on a Mac. I've got Ubuntu installed via Parallels, but there doesn't seem to be proper SD card support in Parallels (you can use your SD card as a shared folder, but it doesn't mount as a disk drive). My question i...

Re: Best first language choice

Pascal is great & we have used this in my college for many years (Lazarus). It general has taken students about 2-3 weeks to get familiar with C after a year of Pascal. I'm inclined to reccommend C though as it allows swift familiarity with C++, Java (script), PHP, C# later on & is good for low-lev...

Re: Complete beginner to programming, should i buy a RPi?

I concur that Linux is not fundamental to just begin dabbling in programming, though practically speaking it's important to know your way around and will become something you'll want to know, even if that's not true right at the beginning. (That's been my personal experience.) That goes double if yo...

Actually, though vim actually wasn't the nightmare I thought it would be (well, not after the first 5 mins of googling anyway), nano is now available as an addon that you could install via the xbmc ui under programs. Once it's installed, rebooting OpenELEC will allow you to use it. vi is installed ...

Look like the swapfile is now optional. Coupled with offloading of thumbnails to somewhere on your network, it may be possible to fit this on a 128MB card. Of course you'd need one that isn't slow as hell, but this is still very cool

Re: Using custom EDID

Try the latest start.elf from github firmware. Add: hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080 The magic number is to discourage use. With this enabled you can drive standard CEA/DMT modes even if edid doesn't report them. What your monitor will do with this signal, I don't know. I have heard a report (that I don...

Weirdly enough, some, but not all, of the non-red images are now working fine, and sometimes, scrolling away and scrolling back will cause the images to work correctly.

here's what the log looks like.

So I've been having similar issues here. I know my TV can display 1360x768 but it gets recognized as 1280x768, which results in all the videos being slightly distorted. I did a tvservice dump and edid parsing (see attachment) and saw that 1360x768 showed up as an unrecognized format. I tried using h...
