Check file permission under /home/ubuntu/ -rw------- 1 root root 302 Aug 11 04:02 .Xauthority -rw------- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 354 Aug 11 04:03 .xsession-errors -rw------- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 2125 Aug 11 03:59 .xsession-errors.old In my case, change all files back to ubuntu.ubuntu and then got resolved.
