Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

Depends on how old your image is, I believe ...

May be worth building a new one & copying your data across ? Or as a minimum, backing up the SD card before running these !!!

Buy a longer one ... ;)

Look around, they're not hard to find. You can also use an HDMI cable, with adapters.

Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

echmain, There's a link on another thread (the Astrophotography one, I think ?) to adapters that have a screw connection to the RasPi camera board & allows lenses & other devices ? One of these may suit ? I have one on mine connecting to a webcam adapter with a filter; looks weird but works OK ...

Cheers :D

Seems one of the concerns (ie the camera code) has been addressed in an earlier update 8-) So hopefully your app will auto-detect the better res without any input ! I guess we'll see as & when !

Re: RaspberryPi Camera for Astrophotography

Gordon, Does your app support the new camera then ? ;) OK, now you've stopped rolling your eyes at me ( :!: ), when are you expecting to be able to test ? Reason I'm asking is that apparently this should be a drop-in replacement for the original camera, but that the default resolution remains the sa...

A case of the Foundation being damned if they do, damned if they don't. Agreed - that is one of my implications. While I would prefer to know about a new device beforehand, at the price the Pi is I wouldn't cry if I had bought the "old style" unit a few days / weeks earlier; instead, I'd pull up my...

I believe it's called "Having a bit of fun" trying to guess what the feature is. If you want the forum to be boring boring boring, that could also be arranged. We could all be very adult about it, but what's the fun in that? Not wanting to start any flaming ... My understanding (and that of others ...

Nice, will have to get one - although the board size appears to have increased :(

[O/T] all he see everyday is people coming in to get problems fixed on these cars. In fact he works for a Lexus dealer. I can't make him understand that if he did the same job for a different car maker he would feel exactly the same about them. Maybe ... maybe not ... depends on the faults he deals ...

That is precisely what I got - update/upgrade made no difference. What did was d/loading the latest OS & applying that to the SD card ... The claims that "all you need do is update/upgrade" are incorrect - it may (and evidently does) work for some people, and does not for others. It is hardly a pana...

I do worry about people who go the heatsink and fan route without giving any indication as to whether or not they've actually checked to see if they need one. :? Awww, you worry about me ? Gordon, How much difference is the Pi3 making to the speed of the app ? No effective change from the Pi2, or the user will notice improvement ? Not had a chance to test myself (had initial issues getting the Pi3 to work; the "upgrade" info didn't work, had to flash the latest image on instead). CSR,...

Re: Pi3 and 2.5A PSU ?

Read somewhere here that it's based on a tricked-out Pi3 (my phrase  )that's under load. Normal usage shouldn't require 2.5A. I bought one to go with my Pi3 as I needed another supply, and I can always swap this onto the touchscreen system (assuming that remains a Pi2).

Just remembered you can change the size of the buttons. Find the section # button height, under # DISPLAY SETTINGS, and change bh = 31 or 30. Yeah, I have one of those (somewhere), they're a bit better than my finger ;) But I still prefer my RF touchpad

As to why I don't use "hide when unused" - it's because I'm an awkward beggar   !!! As & when I get more into using this, I'll probably turn it on.

But that model looks interesting ... 8 megapixels, 3280x2464; 30 fps; moving to quad-HD960x540 on 240 fps ... Seems to be about 18 month old.

Just sorted my ST4 cable (replaced one end with header pins), and will see if I can do a test on the 'scope this week-end ... Last week-end saw a successful stand-alone test to light LEDs  Well, it's cheaper to replace them than a 10" SCT
