Re: Opinion Needed

I have a working application running on the Pi right now. It's not targeted at "Joe & Mary Sixpack". I blame that primarily on the media who took it out of context and got some nifty headlines out of it. Realistically, I think it could very easily be used as a "web desktop", web mail, Google Docs, e...

Re: Hello, Windows 10 IoT Core out of Beta

Yeah, I noticed that it hadn't changed. It would really help if they would actually mark the ISO and release notes with the version and release dates though. The release notes don't seem to actually jive with what they're blogging. There are still some significant things it's indicating aren't ready.

Re: Raspi2 Win 10 IOT C# + MySql

It might be simpler to just create a WebAPI service, or some intermediate layer to handle that rather than trying to connect directly.

Or depending on what you're doing with it, to provide a client that hits a web application.

Re: Remote Desktop from IOT Core

Let us know when you write a RDP client for it.

It should be possible I think. Not sure how it would work performance wise. According to the release notes they still don't have the video driver ready, that might improve performance.

I haven't had much luck with the debugger. It just keeps crashing when I've tried to use it. Hopefully they'll sort that out before release.

Re: equivalent to DataSet and SqlConnection ?

Rewrite it as a web application. Then just display it through a browser app.

That seems pretty ridiculous that System.Data would not be available. Unless it's just not ready yet.

Re: Ideas for creating a line chart?

I can't say I've done this with a universal app, but I believe you should be able to place a canvas element then just draw on it using the Graphics methods. But you would obviously have to draw it all yourself, handle any scaling, etc... If you just want something really simple this might be fine. O...

Mapping the Flash Drive

There may be some folks that don't realize you can just map the microSD card as a network drive from your PC. This can be handy for a number of reasons. Just specify the proper IP for your Pi and map to the C drive like, \\127.0.0.1\c$ Check "Connect using other credentials", then supply the adminis...

I haven't tried it on the Pi, but I assume it would be the same way you would with any other application.

Re: Windows 10

Well, it's true, but perhaps not entirely descriptive. Writing a small universal application to act as a browser, maybe create some compact controls to shortcut to certain things, you should be able to use the Pi as a simple "web desktop." Webmail, Google Docs, etc... I've been focused more on using...

I was getting this same error.

Restarting the Pi, then deploying the application solved the issue for me.

Re: Setting application as startup app - SORTED

Once you deploy the application, you can easily make it the default startup application in the web interface. One thing I've found is that if you're testing, and the app you've made the default causes the Pi to reboot it's not really recoverable. So I leave the default application as the startup app...

Re: existing Visual C# 2010 app - will this work on Win10 Io

As far as I know you'd need to re-create it on VS 2015 as a universal app and deploy it from there. You can't run a winform application. But I'd think most of your non-UI code should be portable. I'm not sure what issues you might run into trying to access connected devices like that, it's not somet...

Re: Touchscreens for Windows 10 IoT

I'm using a 22" Planar without any issues. At least with the monitor itself. The build did change the resolution, it was set to hdmi_group=2, but I changed that to 1 and it improved. I need to try out some different resolutions to see how it does. No problems with the "mouse" input from the monitor ...

Setting Static IP Address

This took a little looking to figure out exactly how to set a static IP for the Pi, so I figured someone else might find this useful. But, these are the PowerShell commands that got it working. set-executionpolicy remotesigned import-module NetTCPIP New-NetIPAddress -InterfaceAlias "Ethernet" –IPAdd...

Re: How to make applications?

Note that VS 2015 RC needs to be installed on an instance of at least build 10074 of Windows 10 CTP to properly install all the Windows Universal app components to the IDE.

At least I tried it first on 10069 I believe, since I already had that on a VM, and it wasn't happening.

Re: Any way to instal SQL server express on Windows to IoT?

Might be lighter weight to just log to a text file if you need something local.

It doesn't necessarily need a local copy of SQL (whatever edition) to do what you're wanting. That's going to add additional overhead that might affect other performance.

Re: Install Windows 10 for IoT using Windows 7

I have a simple application deployed to Win 10 core on the Pi 2. It's just a WebView and enough controls to be able to enter a URL, so that it acts like a very basic browser. It works. It's pretty slow to redraw, but it works. Hopefully this is something that might be improved with better video supp...
