Sending ^C without a keyboard.

Hello everyone, does anyone know how I can send ^C to my Rpi ?(to halt a program) My finished project wont have a keyboard attached, but I do have room for a small pushbutton attached to the gpio. I'll be using Python. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Hello, the project I have in mind for my Rpi requires it to boot up, login and run a program without any input from me when power is applied. Thanks ghans, the power supply says it can supply 2A, so I'll try swapping the cable and give it another go. :)
