Re: Hubpixed vs HubPiwi

Cautionary tale about the Hubpixed: I ordered a Hubpixed on eBay from the developer (Foxboro, MA). I liked the spring clips and envision(ed) using it to do setups then run headless without the Hub. Needed it for a project two weeks later. Developer did not ship for a week. When the box arrived, it c...

Re: Installing a 3.5 inch Waveshare LCD with Raspberry Pi3

Way to go Awooga! I marked this post for future reference the day you posted it. At the end of April, I ordered my 3.5" RPi LCD (A) V3 from ali and it has been sitting in my "projects to do" pile since it arrived in early May. So today was the big day. I pulled out an original Model A with 256MB of ...

Re: Headless boot to single image slide viewer

That might have been okay for the specific gig. I considered it but was concerned that all of the stuff that framed the image would still be there (the whole desktop infrastructure) - didn't want to take the time to research it. More importantly, just setting up rotating wall paper it didn't handle ...

Re: Western Digital PiDrive

Ordered my PiDrive on 3/20 - arrived 4/7 Ordered my PiDrive "wonder cable" 3/25 - arrived 4/19 Eventually they're going to catch up. Seems a shame to kill the order when waiting another week or two would likely have resulted in a shipping notification. And what if it was 6 or 8 weeks later? Either w...

Woohoo! Many thanks to djking. 6 down, 3 to go. In keeping with the models that we got from djking, we are now looking exclusively for B+ models. So if you have 1 to 3 B+ models that you are ready to retire, please contact me.

Thanks!

First real use for Pi - Headless, automated image projection

I run a small AV rental company in Houston, TX. We rent PA systems, up lights, dance lights, projection gear etc. This past week, we produced a couple of shows for a stage magician. Among his requirements were to have two projectors in the front corners of the venue displaying the promo image for hi...

Re: Tutorial: Build a PI Cluster with Docker

Absolutely outstanding! We're slowly acquiring Pis to provision our classroom. We have a 20 lab curriculum designed with lab number 19 or 20 being a cluster and lab number 11 or 12 doing Docker. This is the ultimate and we will base our big lab leveraging much of your tutorial. I can't tell you how ...

Re: Headless boot to single image slide viewer - working on

Spent the better part of the day getting feh to autolaunch and do everything that I wanted it to do. The real challenge here is that I put my first efforts into getting it to work on an Orange Pi with Ubuntu Mate instead of a Raspian/RPi. Per earlier suggestion, I picked a "how to" writeup at (almos...

Re: Headless boot to single image slide viewer

Picture frame. Brilliant! Sometimes, the right word fixes most of the problems. I was so keyed on the term "slide show" that I couldn't wrap my head around another concept.

Well done.

Re: Headless boot to single image slide viewer

Distracted - didn't complete my post. The setup has two screens flanking the stage, each with a single image that never changes during the show. It's not a slide show and it does not get referenced during the show. It is, ostensibly, advertising.

Re: Headless boot to single image slide viewer

Thanks for you input. The autolaunch is critical. The project is for a one man show. He has no technical support. He walks in to his room, turns on his PA, Lights, Projectors etc. on. My job is to go in and set everything up so that this is possible. Our intrepid presenter will never get beyond hitt...

Headless boot to single image slide viewer

Okay, this one seems simple but I'm not much of a Linuxer or a programmer: Need to attach a Pi (any model) to a projector with HDMI. Got that covered. The Pi needs to boot headless (no need for networking). After it boots, it must auto launch any image viewer, load an display a single image. Done. T...

Re: NEW HDD FOR RPI's

Happy news from WD. Got an email with a shipping confirmation for my PiDrive this evening. Ordered 3/20 and today is 4/4. All in all, not too bad considering the message at the end of my ordering session said 3-4 weeks. So, at least one owl is in the air. Now they need to load up a European (or Afri...

Re: NEW HDD FOR RPI's

Is there any magic powder we need to use the PiDrive and the "wonder cable" with a boot card other than BerryBoot? Download location or apt support? Or start with BerryBoot then copy over my current (and beautifully configured Raspian card) to the drive? Like the previous poster, I thought that the ...

Re: Need six to nine 2B or 2B+ units in Texas

Still looking - need 6 to 9 2B units. These are for a series of educational classroom labs from the simplest "how to I get it and set it up" to "how to create a video wall" and "how to build a cluster" (for the experience, not the performance!) We're not looking for a handout - we'll gladly pay a fa...
