Re: Game Console OS

It might be good idea to look into GeeXboX or MoviX Linux distribution for media center. But instead mplayer gui auto-run would point to some sort of game or similar program.
GeeXboX might already be partly compatible with R-Pi because I see download links for tegra2 and omap4 arm cpu.

Re: Beaglebone coolness...

<t>R-Pi should be just fine for its intended purpose ( promote the study of computer science ), and after couple of years maybe new more powerful versions would be available for same price range. Beaglebone is cool on its own way, but it is clearly commercial product, which targets whole another tar...

Re: Connecting R.P to a cheap touch tablet

Well it might be possible to somehow interface r-pi with lcd(from hdmi or composite) and salvage case, touch sensor and battery.

Other possibility would be to use vnc, nx or something similar.

Re: VGA and the FAQ.

<t>Good idea because:<br/> - "vga" is sub 4 char word so you cannot find it in forum only by "search forums" button,<br/> - r-pi doesn't support VGA period, no more discussion about this.<br/> - if you need it, you must convert HDMI/composite by means of some sort of converter box (25~55$ it might b...

<r>I've got couple of ideas, well in portable devices biggest concern is battery life. If I look in my android phone biggest power consumer is LCD backlit. Re: Can a powered hub feed R-PI?

<t>Usb as a power source in r-pi is great idea and I think single psu for hub and r-pi would be really practical! I use similar sized freescale imx53qsb board (I know this HW is different) and I can confirm that external psu power is needed only when you turn on board. Once it is on and connected to...

If you ask me R-pi is Arduino with twin turbo and much more, can't wait to get my hands dirty =)
All latest arm development boards are way too expensive for actually being useful as platform for learning and DIY small home projects.

It might be possible to use openSUSE build service (or something similar) for compiling packages for R-pi arm.

Re: Android

I tried to setup a android 2.3 from linaro codebase to imx53 cortex a8 @1ghz with 1gb of ram. And was barely usable as a "desktop" replacement. I think debian with lxde(or only fluxbox) will be optimal solution for R-pi.
