I think you need to read this:

What is the filesystem on the USB drive ?

That's different, with those packages you can run Samba as a standalone server, or a PDC/BDC, but you cannot run as an AD DC or Unix domain member (no winbind)

Re: Samba for RaspberryPi

When the same error happened to me on my early installations, as it was a fresh install I just re-flashed the the Raspbian (then Jessie), and then installed samba and samba-common-bin , then edited /etc/samba/smb.conf to set the workgroup and shares Nowadays I don't get the same error on fresh inst...

Re: Samba for RaspberryPi

OK, Samba is composed of 4 deamons; Samba, smbd, nmbd and winbindd. To run a Samba AD DC, you need to start the 'samba' daemon, this will start the smbd & winbindd daemons To start a Unix domain member, you need to start the smbd & winbindd daemons, you can also optionally start the nmbd daemon To s...

Re: USB Drive with Samba Share and Users

Mounting the drive is only half of the problem, you then need to create a share in Samba, try reading this:

Re: Cable tester for trailers

I think you are referring to the 12N plug and socket. This has six wires carrying 12V and an earth wire, testers using LEDs are readily available, so getting hold of of one of these might help.

So if you don't want your home directory to be available via Samba, do not share it.
Again acting as a 'clarifier': this means you have to remove / deactivate the [homes] section
I said basically that in my first post in this thread.

if you dont want your RPi visible in any way in the network... then run these set of commands

Code: Select all

sudo apt remove --purge samba samba-common-bin
sudo apt clean
sudo apt autoremove
You forgot Avahi, nfs etc

Re: windows 10 network mapping

Well yes, you could that, but it is probably just papering over the problem, hiding it doesn't mean it isn't there. Most rpi's have a user called rpi, so you can navigate to the users home directory with the UNC. So if you don't want your home directory to be available via Samba, do not share it.

Re: windows 10 network mapping

I take it you have a part of your smb.conf that starts '[homes]', is so, remove it along with the lines associated with it.
If unsure post your smb.conf

Amongst all that output, I didn't see where you made your Unix users to be also Samba users, it might help if you read this: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Standalone_Server Just a couple of comments, if the smb.conf you posted is indeed your entire smb.conf, then you don't h...

Well, you could try asking in the correct place for a start :D This has nothing to do with your rpi and everything to do with the original winexe code being tied to Samba code from 2012 i.e. it doesn't build anymore. you could try reading this: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2018-Au...

Sorry, but you cannot, you need SMBv1 for network browsing, you will need to map the shares instead.

Re: Viewing XP computer HDD from Pi over network

Okay, I have removed ALL the commented and default lines. I have also added a line that I think will help with your problem. You may have to uncomment one line, though it would be better to get XP to use NTLMv2 instead. [global] dns proxy = no log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000 sys...

Re: Viewing XP computer HDD from Pi over network

It might help if you posted the smb.conf from the rpi (please don't posted commented lines) It sounds like you are running Samba as a Standalone server in a workgroup, so you may or may not need a user called 'pi' on the windows machines, it depends on how you are running Samba. I note you copied th...

Not sure if you can do this with dhcpcd, but if you remove this and install the isc-dhcp-server, you can set this up to do automatic failover. Just do an internet search on 'dhcp server failover'

However you run Samba you need users, unless you run with 'map to guest = bad user' and 'guest ok = yes'.

Have you created any users on the rpi ?

To connect to 'PiShare', Samba must know the user.

What Samba configuration ? You haven't posted anything that helped, such as the smb.conf from the pi, or what version of Samba it is running (probably 4.5.12, but who knows ?) People need to get used to no network browsing, you need SMBv1 for that and this is turned off on the latest Windows version...

Two things wrong there, your OS version isn't 4.14.62-v7+, that's the kernel version, also you are still using XP, just in case you missed it, XP is dead.

Re: I have a problem with the sound on my pi-top.

Bit lost here, you say you are using a raspberry pi in your pi-top, what did you have in it before ? I thought it was designed the raspberry pi ? By following the link above, I found out there seems to be a problem with the pi-top and sound, so If I can find this (and a possible fix), why can't you ?
