Re: WMCTRL command help please.

Hi. The "idea" is that have an open (RANDOM) terminal/CLI. By that I mean one I don't want to have to name. The path is also not to be anything specific. It could be Anywhere. I start some task and it is going to take some time. Say: sudo apt update I don't want to have it at the top all that time. ...

WMCTRL command help please.

Folks, I am trying to get my head around using this command: wmctrl. What I am wanting to do is have a command to force the terminal window to the front. From what I see that is "easy" in you do the command: wmctrl -r <window name> -b add, above Ok, got it. But if I want THIS WINDOW as the window nam...

Re: New NTP server questions/problems.

Thanks very much. I've looked at the links and read about the "undisciplined local clock" but I seem to be missing something. Then it goes on to the orphan page. Ok, again, I am raeding it, but missing something. From the first one - undisciplined local clock: Synopsis Address: 127.127.1.u Reference...

Re: New NTP server questions/problems.

Knute, Thanks. You are also probably right about the times and the "epoc" date. It may not be the NTP server but the device using its default time as it is not getting any reply from the NTP machine. FM81, You too are right. I didn't think it through too much. But if the machine has the config for a...

Re: New NTP server questions/problems.

That's a fair enough call, but alas I don't think it is THE problem. Alas I have since restarted/reset the NTP server so I can't show you the problem now. But indulge me with this line of thinking: On the NTP server, it has 3 external servers in its list. So there is a good source for the right time...

New NTP server questions/problems.

A while ago I had problems getting my NTP (RPI) working. With a fair bit of help I got it working better than it was and I am grateful. Alas a "new" problem has since appeared. AFAIK, the NTP server is working happily but if I leave it disconnected from the outside network for a long time, it seems ...

AFAIK .profile is only read when logging in, not when starting a new terminal session. So try logging out and in to see if the path changes are picked up You ARE correct. Ooops to me. I seem to be burning a lot of pants these days. I didn't think of logging out and back in. I thought the M$ Windoze...

PATH question - research done.

Hi folks. I searched and found this link: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9033 About PATH. They were asking about how to "expand" the existing path. path=$path:/home/pi/productx/bin Reply: Add that same line (PATH should be all in uppercase BTW) to the end of ~/.profile So I did a...

Gee, you got out on the wrong side of the bed today.

Ok.

I installed it on a different VERSION of the O/S.

Which to me is different to: a different O/S.

Note: VERSION.

Anyway, lesson remembered.

Firefox won't install - here or mozilla?

Folks, After a long time rebuilding a couple of machines I have the problem of Firefox not wanting to install. Following this: sudo apt-get purge firefox echo 'deb http://q4os.org/qextrepo q4os-rpi-firefox-cn main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/qextrepo.list wget -nv -O- http://q4os.org/qextrep...

Continuing to try and get it working, and working down the page of what to do: This has me stumped: I am running Raspbian Jessie Lite (released on Mar 18, 2016), and got the same issue. Here is my steps to completely fix this issue, even if after a reboot. Firstly have a look at the init file for /e...

Sorry, more thinking: From the first reply: apt dist-upgrade -- as upgrade, but does a more thorough job of checking and updating dependencies. Ok, here's another thing that has me stumped: (Given alias sysinfo='cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model;echo "";echo"";cat /etc/os-release;echo "";cat /...

Re: Need help with "updating" and what command does what.

HawaiianPi, Seems I have shot myself in the foot then with two machines. :( 1 - WAP not working now. 2 - NFS not working. However, the NFS is working on the one which can't get the WAP working. I haven't tried the WAP on the one which NFS isn't working, but there is no need at this time. Only to say...

Re: RPI 3 wifi setup - not understanding what is going on.

So if this is what I get from "cat /etc/rpi-issue" I am using an OLD jessie?

[email protected]:~ $ cat /etc/rpi-issue
Raspberry Pi reference 2015-11-21
Generated using Pi-gen, https://github.com/RPi-Distro/Pi-gen, jessie-stage4

Although I have updated it since.

Re: Need help with "updating" and what command does what.

Then it was Jessie's predecessor which was at "end of life" and so I needed to update to Jessie. But then - to me - as soon as I blinked, Strech came along.....

So I just reflected that what just happened - updating to Jessie - will happen again with updating to Strech.

My bad.

David: Thanks very much. So now another "dumb question": I have my machine running - happily - and is on Jessie. Strech comes along and I need to update. nfs problem. Works on one machine and not on another.

(This came to light while working on my WAP problem and it has me confused.) Quick overview of the "bigger" picture: 4 x RPI. This; One to play Music; one as a WAP and NTP server; one as a pseudo tablet. The NTP is an EARLY version, but is running Jessie. NTP: [email protected]:~ $ cat /etc/os-release PRETT...

Need help with "updating" and what command does what.

I'm gonna ask now because it seems I had/have it wrong. The story is going to be a bit weak, as it happened a long time ago and I don't really remember the specifics. Though it could be said they are important - and I agree in some cases - but for the sake of explaining, they aren't. Originally I st...

This is the problem, and it will make the hostapd service show exited on boot. In /etc/default/hostapd, change this #DAEMON_CONF="" to this (note no #) DAEMON_CONF="/etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf" Yeah, that is a bad thing I did, but if you look a bit further down, that line is there.... # Additional da...
