Re: Oximeter with rpi

Your project is fantastic. I am working on a similar project (will monitor oxygen and blood-sugar). But, and this is not a discouragement, you are getting way ahead of yourself. The two articles you posted are a really good start. You are going to need to understand the data sheets thoroughly. I can...

Re: Start sh script from GPIO button

hi Davide, there are a couple of ways to run a routine (script, whatever) from a sensor or push button event. You always need to decide in your design whether you want 'push' or 'pull'.... do you want to poll the device to 'see' if the button is pushed, or do you want an interrupt callback to handle...

Re: Pi Power

Most usb hubs built-in to monitors are insufficient to power the RPi-- you are just asking for corrupted SD cards and other issues. Always power the RPi from mains using at least a 2200 mA 5v adapter. You'll have to review the specs for your monitor (of course) but don't be surprised if it only prov...

hello, I notice that you have not taken the time to comment your code. Sometimes when I am having trouble with my own code I will go back and comment it... leave myself notes about how its organized, what variables are for, what specific routines do, and how they do it... often (and I do mean often)...

Re: RPi2 usb serial console has corrupted text

I am learning that the usb controller of the RPi2 is not as robust as the usb setup on my PC nor MAC. For one thing, the bus is really not hot-pluggable. I use a Logitech keyboard|mouse combo and I often hot-plug the little usb 'receiver' between machines. Well, the RPi usb controller (and drivers) ...

Your rude post does NOT answer the OP's question. hi Dougie, I don't see any reason for condescension or a patronizing tone. Greetings, ok... I noticed that my RPi2 had not been booted in over two weeks, so whatever... I rebooted and retried; problem is virtually nonexistent now. In a string of 'l' characters one out of 300 will miss, and I'm not getting any 'incorrect' characters. So, something flaky got corrupted over t...

I don't think you want a close() on every write do you?? By running 'in a terminal' do you mean running the python code as a script from the command line? Where is your shabang line? #!/usr/bin/python ... rest of script You need a shabang line to tell sh or bash or whatever how to run the python int...

Re: Commands when starting

So, without any checks at all, you want your RPi (which model) to compile some source, move it into /usr/local/bin/ and execute it at system startup? Why? Dangerous! ... warning Will Robinson, Danger... The answer to your question relies on your knowledge of init. The RPi uses 'init' to control syst...

Re: RPi2 usb serial console has corrupted text

hi Scotty, ...well, I wish that it were that simple. The baud rate is in fact set correctly (on both ends) and as I said previously, it mostly works. There is something *very* wrong with the way usb is setup on the RPi2; its just not up-to-par with usb expectations from a normal PC perspective. Also...

RPi2 usb serial console has corrupted text

Greetings, I have a Belkin four port powered usb hub plugged into my RPi2 ; plugged into the Belkin hub F4U038 are two (2) Intel Edison SoC units. I am accessing the Intel Edison(s) using minicom from the RPi2 on either ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1. This mostly works. The problem is that often these two seri...

Re: Rasberry Pi B - Crashes to black screen constantly.

Please define 'crashes to black screen constantly'... does this mean your Xorg server died and you are back to a useful (although black) terminal that you can log into... or, does it mean that the RPi is dead with a lifeless black screen? Usually, and not always, random failures that are extreme and...

Re: Monitoring enterprise wifi using a raspberry pi

The activity is called sniffing. If you're doing it with authorization in an enterprise setting to solve certain issues, then fine and well. If not, at the worst it could get you fired; or jailed. Or, it would cause problems on your network if it blocks instead of snifs. Hidden RPi modules in a corp...

Re: SSH & Port forwarding?

If your RPi is going to be on the 'outside' you really should set the ssh port to something other than 22. I'm confused about what you've tried so far. Do things in two steps. First make sure the new port works 'inside' your network. Then worry about forwarding it to the outside. Some setups do not ...
