You might be interested in this thread: Debug cable and USB hub from FTDI , http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=9852 You can use the FTDI hub module's +5V barrel power input to provide power to RasPi through RasPi's GPIO connector. It bypasses fuse F3. Interesting but definitely ...

Re: Mpeg 2 poll

I don't understand the hostility towards this request. People on this forum are talking about using the Pi for all sorts of purposes - what is wrong with MPEG-2? I'm not saying the Foundation should drop everything to work on this, but if they get it right it could provide codecs useful for a wide ...

Open request: Auxilliary support board

This is an open request for something that I think would be a good adjunct for the Pi. A power board with USB hub in the same form-factor as the Pi pcb. Features should include: Power supply sufficient to provide at least 1A to a Pi. External power cable to plug into standard AC source ("mains plug"...

Re: Future Pi...depends on goals.

It has to get into schools first. That's why it's here after all. Any upgrades that happen after the educational platform is released will be welcome, but are *just speculation* right now. That's why I didn't go haring off after things like multi-core processors or mSATA interfaces. For the target ...

Yes, that was really the idea behind my poll, I wanted to find out how many people would be prepared to pay hence the option to vote at the top of the post. I also do say in the original post that it would cost money.. Perhaps the point should be phrased this way... *Who* should be the ones to get ...

Future Pi...depends on goals.

I know there was a thread on what future enhancements people wanted for the Pi, and I thought about it, but didn't post. Now, thinking some more about it coupled with some of the remarks in the"Linux Today" video and some thoughts about trends in electronics (and the pricing thereof), I think a slig...

Given that 4 months after launch, the distributors still can't keep them in stock and are unwilling to commit to deliveries in less than 4 weeks...WHAT "economies of scale" do you anticipate could be achieved by this? Rechecking the FAQ...

I think the following (bold added) should be changed: How do you connect more than two USB devices? Use a hub to increase the number of ports. Some keyboards have hubs built in which would work well . Given the keyboard issues people have been having, a great many of which appear to revolve around p...

Re: The Linux Action Show's First Look at the Raspberry Pi

That's an interesting segment... I don't think the hosts paid much--if any--attention to the Foundation's *intended* use of the Pi, but they certainly had a lot of ideas for uses. They also seemed to be unclear that Model A isn't available yet at all. One thing I thought was very well done was empha...

Re: Orders opening up?

I ordered one from RS just over a week ago and was quoted "within 10 weeks". They have cases, too - reasonable looking ones at sensible prices (£3.99 excl VAT & delivery) - but they're only shown or offered while you're ordering a Pi. Yeah...that "only with a Pi order" part is kind of annoying. The...

One thing about the "configure-keyboard" change...you have to do that from a keyboard actually connected to the RPi...it doesn't work in an ssh connection.

Re: Best Pi Case - Opinions/Recommendations?

I would agree with what makes it a good case. The things i look for are: 1)Strong/secure (keeps RPi in place steadily) 2)Vented (no sides to allow air flow) 3)Additional holes (access to GPIO and headers) 4)Transparent (so you can see all the coolness) #1 Agreed. This covers the prime requirements....

Re: Sound / Volume

I'm not having sound problems.

I'm routing the analog audio through a Cables2Go Audio Matrix Switch, part #52065.

I would presume that at least some of the volume issue with headphones is simply going to be that the RPi doesn't have much power available to drive them.

Re: Best Pi Case - Opinions/Recommendations?

My favorite so far is the modmypi case: https://www.modmypi.com/shop/ What I like. 1) Nice clean design 2) All the connectors on the pi appear to be well supported by the case. 3) It looks like it is made of thick durable plastic. However, minor things that concern me: 1) It is not quite available ...

After as much futzing around, I tried an HP wireless k/b that came with a PC a couple of years ago. *That* one works...so at least I don't have to fear that I've damaged to USB ports. The dongle is rated for 50 ma, the keyboard (battery powered...obviously) pulls 10ma. Now to locate a USB mouse, whi...

The USB to PS/2 adapter may not turn your PS/2 keyboard into a real USB keyboard at all, so please try a real USB keyboard, one as cheap and simple as possible. so no keyboards with built in mouse ports, or trackpads, or lighted keys. You can find a list a bad/good keyboards here: http://elinux.org...

Re: Enabling SSH automatically on *Power-On*

The main way to avoid having to dig for the IP address every time is to use a static IP address. Which one you use will depend on your router setup. Assuming for the moment that your private IP block is the typical 192.168.1.*, then you'd simply pick a final octet value to suit. Using a value that i...

Re: Best Pi Case - Opinions/Recommendations?

I think what I'd like to see in a "best" case would be the inclusion of a power supply (or at least a connector that permits disconnecting power without stressing the RPi's own power connector) and a power *switch*. Clear is a definite plus. Including a built-in powered USB hub would be a BIG plus. ...
