Re: Cubieboard vs RaspberryPi B

Pi runs on 700mA. Cubie specs 2A. 5v 2A power supplies are *much* harder to locate than 5v 1A ones, especially now that there are enough Pis out there for people (like Adafruit) to make good power supplies specifically for the Pi. Cubie runs even with 500mA from USB port. So will a Pi, but the spec...

Several observations on the comparison between Pi and Cubie. Pi runs on 700mA. Re: more additions ?

How cheap is 'cheap' in your opinion? For purposes of connection to a Pi, I would categorize as "cheap" only those add ons that cost less than the Pi itself. Thus the $25 camera module is "cheap", at least if one is using a Model B. The gertboard at $45 is not cheap (though I would class it as "rea...

Re: Question from a very amateur guy

700mA is the spec'd minimum for the Model B. The SD card is the "mass storage" device. Working memory--"RAM"--is separate. The RAM is a "package on package" device on top of the processor. When you look at a Model B, there are two conspicuous eleectronics packages on the board. The larger one is SoC...

Re: suggestions for Rev 3 raspberry pi

The speculation that this is a 1 April joke has already been made, so I'll deal with some of this as substantive ideas... I have a few ideas for the next revision of raspberry pi that would sorta save money: 1.) have the next one boot off USB instead of an SD card. this would give the end user a lot...

Re: Doom for the Pi

Unless you create a large enough windows-readable partition on the SD card, that's unlikely to work. (Windows can't read the EXT4 partition that Raspbian is normally loaded onto.) Another alternative would be to copy the CD to a flashdrive and "install" from there into DOSbox (I'm assuming that the ...

Ummm.... Not to put too fine a point on it, but...Ina car why do you *care* about reducing power for a device that consumes less than 5W? Re: Turning the R-Pi into a parallel System

Aside from the link DeeJay posted, you're asking for some kind of system bus. I don't know if the BCM2835 even has one, and if it does, how far signals on it could be driven and at what speed.

Hi What will the next Pi be able to do.. Will it have more memory and better monitor support? More memory: When (a) a 1GB memory module exists and (b) said module is cheap enough to hit the price point for the Pi (that is, the price of the Pi stays the same as it is now), then, and only them will P...

Re: Please add hardware/GPU encryption

Excellent. Yes, I read about access to the RNG being added to the kernel. So I guess my request is to provide access to the encryption hw. Do you know why access isn't currently provided? Is it because the RPi foundation hasn't had time/motivation to provide access yet, or is Broadcom refusing to a...

Re: Please add hardware/GPU encryption

I would really like to see hardware/GPU encryption added to the firmware images of the Pi. I've read some posts saying hardware encryption isn't included due to export regulations. I don't see how this can be the case when the hardware ships without any OS, and the crypto could be implemented in th...

Re: There is any new version on the horizont?

I need speed! An usb 2.0 adapter will not work! Well...if you use a Pi, USB 2.0 is what you've got, because that's what the BCM2835 has got. But now I'm curious... What is it you're doing or planning to do that requires gigabit LAN? It would have to something that can be done strictly on your LAN, ...

Re: Need help finding what I should buy.

Well, I sure want some good gears, but no things like a 300$ case. Just some gears that are useful with reasonable prices. The cheapest case you can get is the box the Pi comes in. Both RS and Farnell sell perfectly decent cases, directly and through their subsidiaries for a bit under $8. Both case...

I get the distinct impression that they are being deliberately pessimistic with estimates so as to avoid complaints if/when there is a hiccup somewhere. I think they started doing that some time in the last half of last year. Given the furor over RS' problems, it was probably a reasonably astute mo...

Re: Buying a Raspberry Pi in the US?

The really freaky thing about the *current* supply issues is that it suggests that the Pi is nowhere near market saturation. It really makes one wonder just how big the market for Pis is. IIRC from various articles I've seen, world wide annual PC shipments are on the order of 120 million units. What...

There is a huge amount of software that runs on the Raspi (and other ARM devices running linux). If you haven't found it, that's not the fault of the ARM processor, it's yours for not looking. Re: can i ask which accessory i need to buy

TO connect a Pi to your home network, if you have a spare RJ-45 connector on the switch side of your router, all you need is a power supply and a CAT-5 cable.

Yes, you can SSH into the Pi. It's just another Linux system on your network.
