I believe that Foundation (politely) requests that such products be marked "Powered by Raspberry Pi".

Re: Future of the RPi

I would like to see the day when a device like the Raspi can completely replace the desktop PC for the majority of tasks people use them for - email, browser, media and to a lesser extent programming, with no perceived loss of ability. I personally (No foundation hat on) don't think that is that fa...

Re: Any plans for a board with 1 GB+ RAM

There is great fear of the "Osbourne Effect". Whether or not this fear is justified for the Pi is...debatable. For myself...I'd like to a 256MB Rev. 2 board. Not many were made and it's the one version (past the initial 10K) that I don't have. If the OP *really* needs a 1GB, try looking around. Ther...

What do you all think is the future of the RPi, this forum and RPi users / developers? I see the future of the Pi as having a large sign somewhere saying "XXX billion Pis sold". As I understand it, the number of Pis produced and shipped passed 1 million some time in December. The last number mentio...

Once you boot the Pi and run startx, your Windows experience should enable you use a Pi. For more advanced understanding, get used to the command line prompt.

Re: Powering the Pi - Current and Voltage Restrictions

One the practical end, Adafruit makes this: http://www.adafruit.com/products/501 power supply, which they rate at 5.25v @ 1A. That's at the upper end of the USB voltage spec to allow for cable losses. I have several of them, and--at least for my applications--they work very well indeed. I once sugge...

Scribble on the polyfuse with a pencil, and don't put 6v through it again, ya hear? Haha not going to but what does this do ? Thanks Pencil "lead" is made from graphite and clay. Graphite is a semi-decent conductor. The pencil scrbblings will be at least a partial bypass of the polyfuse. This has t...

Re: RTC !

My point (agree or not) is that an RTC is an essential component for a computer. The most recent comment I've seen from anyone likely to know is that 1.5 *million* Pis have been sold. None of them came with an RTC. Just how "essential" can it be with that many--presumably working--Pis out there wit...

Re: Can you live on £53 a week?

I think I could live on 53GBP per week, a few conditions would have to be met first....

1. Complete cures of various medical conditions that I have.

2. Time machine to take me back to about 1930.

In the US of 1930, I could live on that amount quite comfortably.

Demonstrate to your parents, over time, that you are (a) responsible in all you do, and (b) very safety conscious with anything hazardous.

In the mean time, save up money to be able to afford what you want.

Re: 12V 7.2Ah lead acid battery charging question.

One point that no one else has mentioned... OP said the output of his DC-DC voltage regulator is set to 5.4v. That's a bit too high to be a good idea. The Pi is supposed to get 5v+/- 0.25v. Now, you may be seeing a drop to 5.25v if you're using a low quality USB lead, but you can't rely on that. The...

Re: How long can I run the RasPi for?

Mine tend to get restarted for various reasons, such as software upgrades or the odd power outage. However, staying up for a month or two isn't unusual.

If a PC is staying up for a month at a time, then it isn't allowing MS to patch the OS, which almost invariably requires a reboot.

Since Ubuntu is, as I understand it, based on Debian, it should be possible to do so, but you might have to recompile a lot of stuff.

Has anyone else managed to get a tenth as many general purpose small, cheap single board systems on the market? I certainly don't know of any. That's impressive! Growing a comunity and software/user base takes longer. In relation to an apples vs oranges / chalk vs cheese grudgematch smackdown I guess you have to ask 'better at what'. There are different ways of evaluating a board - you can look at how much bang you get for your buck or yo...

Re: Cubieboard vs RaspberryPi B

The problem I'm aware of with the current odroid is it uses Exynos4. That's the one with the major security hole used in the Samsung Galaxy S3, if I'm not wrong. It's also Cortex-A9, which is a poor choice right now that there's A15 and A7 out. The A7 is basically about as fast as the A9 per clock ...

Re: Maximum overclock varies per individual Pi

Jim gave a good explanation of it all. There are a couple of other points worth making... The manufacturing process is a game of numbers. You want to get the maximum number of "good" chips from each wafer. "Good" meaning (a) they work, (b) they work at the specified performance that you sell them on...

Re: Windows 3.1/95

It's probably a stretch to claim that 3.1 (let along 95) "runs" in DOSBox. Such an operation should probably be described as "walking" Windows on the Pi. (Though I will agree that, except for the last one--"Crusaders of the Dark Savant"--the Wizardry game series is quite responsive on a Pi.)
