Re: Pure Python Touchscreen (FT5406) Driver

The multitouch protocol is described here : https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/input/multi-touch-protocol.txt I've found that the PI touch screen does produce a few odd message sequences some times so a decoder needs to be written quite defensibly to be tolerant of these sequences if they occ...

Pure Python Touchscreen (FT5406) Driver

Arr! In response to the problems people have been having with PyGame on the new touchscreen, I set about exploring the raw device file to see if I could extract the cursor data from there. I've never touched any evdev stuff before, so I leant heavily on SenseStick as an example ( https://github.com/...

Re: Mouse driver problem

This is an extreme work in progress, but this library and example show 10 point multitouch working in PyGame and it seems pretty accurate ( although hitting pixel 799,479 with my finger is proving to be difficult! )

Ahoy! I've run some tests today after 3 separate users all with problems using lcd_rotate=2 , as near as I could tell before I horribly broke everything trying to patch the problem this command is not currently supported in NOOBS. Updating the Pi using ` apt-get upgrade ` appears to update the kerne...

Re: Powering the 7" Display

Do you have an additional, separate power supply to try powering the LCD from?

It's possible that your cable is bad, and there's simply too much voltage drop across it for the Raspberry Pi to fire up, which means the LCD display is never going to show any signs of life.

Re: Touch Screen Not working

Basic debugging steps for the touchscreen. Check it shows up in dmesg:

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep -i FT5406
Check it shows up as an input device:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep FT5406 -B 1 -A 8

Re: The screen is 'sliding' ( gap between screen and bezel )

The problem with returning it is: 1) The expense of postage to send it back. 2) I don't have the original packaging, I've trimmed the standoffs, and I've pushed the screen around several times to get it back in position. They may look at it and say I've voided the warranty by tampering/modifying it...

There is *no* backlight or brightness control yet in any build outside of Gordon's own personal fork.

Re: Getting it working

1. It depends on which version of the software you use. Grab the new Raspbian Jessie for everything-enabled-and-good-to-goness 2. Probably. lsmod should show a "rpi_ft5406" module for the touchscreen 3. Yes, connect the power supply to the display and use these cables from the 5V / GND of the driver...

Re: Can't get new Element14, 7 inch display, working in ...

Are you certain that there's no additional line reading:

Code: Select all

lcd_rotate=
further down in the config file that may be overriding the change you're making?

For quick config.txt changes, it always helps to make the change at the very bottom of the file, to ensure nothing later interferes.

These are pretty close to the results I got from my cheap bench power supply for Pi 2 + LCD.

The LCD on its own seems to eat between 430 an 470mA.

Fantastically useful tip. Worked a treat on Raspbian Wheezy, but for some reason it doesn't work on Jessie.

Code: Select all

xinput list-props 9
Shows the settings have taken effect, but the right menu is nowhere to be found!

Re: Screen not powering on (remains black)

The documentation you've found is incorrect. The old Model A and Model B Pi's currently do not support the screen. A software update will fix this in time. A few enterprising fellows on this forum have also uh... "modified" their Pi's to make it work, but I don't recommend trying it! Relevant thread...

I have a feeling that this is very closely related to this: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=121781 I could certainly imagine an incorrect screen resolution throwing off the touchscreen which will be correctly set to 800x480! Re: Official RPI Touchscreen - is it upside down in the fram

Off topic: does anyone knows why this change has been made? Depending on how you mount/stand the LCD the previous default rotation could be considered as being upside-down, since it had a slightly worse viewing angle from above than the new rotation. For better or worse, the default was changed to ...

Are you certain that your Pi SD card hasn't been corrupted in the update process? If you've got another SD card you can image a fresh copy of Rasbian to, it may be worth giving it a try.

Does an HDMI display work, can you SSH in?
