Re: Shift register and Python...

Using my wiringPi wrapper and a couple of daisy chained shift regs you can do something like this: LATCH_PIN = 1 DATA_PIN = 2 CLOCK_PIN = 3 SECOND_SHIFT_VALUE = 255 FIRST_SHIFT_VALUE = 255 io = Wpi.GPIO(Wpi.WPI_MODE_PINS) io.digitalWrite(LATCH_PIN,io.LOW) io.shiftOut(DATA_PIN,CLOCK_PIN,Wpi.MSBFIRST,...

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

I followed this by running my test code via sudo which promptly returned me to the command line with no errors. You must, indeed, run as root. Normal users do not have access to the shared memory mumbo-jumbo that makes GPIO happen. Alternatively you can use Gordon's GPIO binary to export the /sys/c...

Saulverde wrote:can someone post instructions on getting the old install?
Something to the tune of:

Code: Select all

git checkout c9d00e49cff5ebf17ac75b581f95167092471662
But try:

Code: Select all

sudo pip install wiringpi
First.

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

@gadgetoid: The problem seems to be ``packages = ["WiringPi"],`` in the ``setup.py``. There is no package by that name. I didn't add it, and am not sure exactly what it's there for. But I'll remove it and see if it builds for me. I've added the package to pypi, http://pypi.python.org/pypi/wiringpi/...

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

If all else fails, you should be able to check out the version of WiringPi-Python from Git prior to the changes which seem to have broke the build. Those changes were the start of PyPI packaging, which should ultimately make this install a fairly simple process- ala RPi.GPIO. Alas I'm still learning...

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

I committed some more fixes to the repository and followed the instructions posted to the letter on Debian Squeeze ( not Raspbian ). Everything seems to be working! I can digitalRead, although I have yet to try a write- I'll hopefully manage to do that after food. I will try a build test on Raspbian...

Some of the new changes from Gordon have broken the wrapper. I didn't notice this before, sorry!

Now working on a solution, but running into undefined symbol errors that I should not be running into!

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

I think new full instructions for a clean raspbian os are required - there are new users finally getting pi's deliveries all the time. Just a thought - keep up the good work ;) Texy You're right! Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

Looks like I'm going to have to build and test this myself. I can certainly "import wiringpi" and access it. You might want to ditch your local files and grab the repo again, as I'm not sure what git commands would get it into the right state- I just know that a fresh grab and init results in a buil...

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

wiringSerial.h should be available in the latest WiringPi changes on GitHub, and should be pulled down with the submodule. If you: cd WiringPi/wiringPi git pull origin master You should get the latest files. I'm not familiar enough with git to know why on earth it doesn't get them when you do "git s...

Re: Norwich Raspberry Pi User and Developer Group

I'm trying to find a venue, sponsorship and help to create a permenant Norwich hacker-space. I'm not aware of one that exists, and judging by the venue choice for NorwichRPI I'm going to go ahead and guess that one doesn't? Presumably the UEA would have the sort of facilities we desire, but it's not...

Re: New release of RPi.GPIO

Those are some interesting proposals Aydan, and would certainly be something I'd like to try implementing in WiringPi-Python. There's a bit of a gap between "the right way" and "the easy way" though. I tend to favour the procedural way for getting started, as code is then very portable from Arduino ...

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

Note that Croston has released a new faster version of the RPi.GPIO module as well ;) I noticed! I should really give it a try. He's obviously a lot more clued up on these things than I am, so should potentially be able to push out something better. It would be nice if our efforts could be combined...

Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

Tested, with great success! http://pastebin.com/zEv480A3 I mostly copy-pasted the Arduino example code and Google'd how to adjust it for Python. It's fast, drawing the bitmaps onto the screen pretty much instantly, but it is a little prone to spontaneous corruption (although that's quickly removed b...

Hmmmm, fails at the first line : Try: git clone https://github.com/WiringPi/WiringPi-Python cd WiringPi-Python git submodule update --init Sorry again. Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

You should be able to "git pull" Alternately just mv the folder and do the initial clone again; but a pull should work. Re: WiringPython - WiringPi for Python

Ah. It seems you've already ordered one! T. D'oh! Hindsight :D It looks like a promising LCD for RPi tinkering, though. The Arduino library for it is pretty much already C, it's not harder than copy + paste to get it up and running alongside WiringPi and then not difficult again to wrap that up int...
