Re: VGA Monitor

I'm using the piview and it works perfectly. Plug and play. I haven't read much about gerts adapter aside from it technically works. Also it probably wouldn't fit in some cases/enclosures. Using gerts adapter probably requires a setup piview again plug and play.

USB mics/interfaces that don't require a driver work best. But I don't know how to use them without audacity.

There is a tutorial in the raspberry pi cookbook for python programmers by Tim cox. There is a Google groups forum for pi3d you should check that out.

Re: microphones to record outdoor sounds

A zoom h1 is $100 and is portable and I've connected it to the pi via USB to put the wav/mp3 files on my pi. But it's a recorder with mic in one. You could hook any mic up to the pi and record via audacity but the zoom h1 is more portable.

Sonic pi looks as you described but if you dig a little deeper you will see why it is great even for a guitar player like myself.

Re: Recording Software Software Question

I am a musician and have recorded audio through a USB interface (without the drivers) to audacity on a raspberry pi 2 without any code. I just sudo apt-get install audacity from the command line (real easy). It's not as good as a modern laptop but it works. Check out sonic pi it is amazing software!!

Re: RainBow Screen

Try going on amazon get a power supply with 5v 2a. Check the reviews if they are good or not. The rainbow screen has been discussed alot and is the reason I refused to purchase a raspberry pi before getting a proper power supply.

I am trying to find a similar solution to save lines of code. I was thinking of defining the code instead of using a = to make a variable but then how do I make the defined variable go. well tbh i'm trying to make some sort of a smart software which passes a numerical string whenever it comes by to...

The volume icon is new and on the top right in the current raspbian. I don't think you are able to switch between HDMI and headphone output with it but you could on python games sonic pi and raspi-config.

hackable text editor

I saw a YouTube video for atom and someone in a post recommended vim. Now atom appears to work how I thought programming would be before I bought my pi. Then I found out it was more like my commodore basic editor with some errors highlighted. So my question is what editor will allow me to store code...

You will have trouble changing pages on the browser if they change often and/or are busy. But codecademy works. And you can pay bills. Programming is so great you will forget about windows. You can take the stuff in your head and turn it into a program and automate it and work out the bugs.
