Re: which wifi dongle should i buy for my pi2 ??

First instruction is startx so that means while running the gui. You said the music pause problem as if you have referenced it before. So are you on raspbian? My instructions work with wipi using raspbian. Which program is not working?

Re: Looking for case suggestions

Pi's are durable. Pi cases are for dust? The official cases look good but if it hits the floor the panels may fly off. There are pi cases that are clear which probably won't survive a fall. Why don't you try and Velcro a case to your table. I had my pi since Feb and haven't dropped it yet all the wi...

I would do it in a second if all I had to do was add a pi and didn't have to 3d print something and if the whole thing ran on two double a batteries.

Re: rpi -update

To do an update means to go on the net and make sure everything is available to download from the net. I don't think you're trying to download anything because obviously you would need the internet. Mabey you need an upgrade? To get an upgrade connect to the internet and type sudo apt-get update && ...

Re: Is Raspberry Pi 2 B enough running a desktop OS?

The gui "windows type thing" works fine. Libre office is slow. I've never even watched a video on mine because YouTube doesn't work without messing with it. Even then. I suggest if you can't program a computer to learn python because it makes your computer so valuable and by next year you could do g...

Re: Minecraft Pi Edition not working

I think it's control + tab, or alt + tab to move out of the screen. Could you describe what part of the screen is giving you trouble? Is it the menu or the blocks select screen? Did you remember to disable overscan in the raspi-config?

Re: I do not like the Raspberry?

So selecting boot to desktop bypasses the user and password prompts and launches the gui? If so would I have to enter them in to apt-get something or am I just good? I like entering the passwords when I demo it to friends because it looks like I'm doing some mysterious Linux stuff.

Hydrogen don't work and I assume it has something to do with the ram. Also I look forward to speeding up sonic pi. And the PDF viewer is real slow. Nothing I can't deal with.

Re: can't get python connected to minecraft

Open Python 2 IDLE (not Python 3) by clicking Menu > Programming > Python 2. Use File > New Window to create a new program and save it as myprogram.py. You are going to need 3 modules, the minecraft.py and block.py modules from the api library and the standard time module so you can introduce delays...

Re: C-Media USB Mic volume issue

I record audio with audacity on my pi and the volume isn't perfect so I go into settings and select normalize. If you're not into audacity try amplifying the input with something like a guitar amp. Mic into input - crank volume - output from headphone to pi. Really you can use any amp type device. B...

Re: Looking for a Python / Pi book

There are alot of basics I recommend you guys learn first which is why I suggested the kiddie books which are well written. For a raspberry pi specific book I say get Raspberry Pi Cookbook for Python Programmers by Tim cox. You probably can't find a better python/pi book. Also read the magpi because...

Re: Looking for a Python / Pi book

First I'd do teach your kids to code by bryson Payne. Then python for kids by Jason r Briggs which is similar then automate the boring stuff with python by al sweigart then codecademy. Make sure you take lots of notes.

Your probably going to learn both. Most books are 3 and codecademy is 2. It seems like you have to choose but the only thing you have to do is stick with it till the end of your lessons.

Does this help at all? https://youtu.be/7cQrNl0QVFA

The older pre + models may require a powered hub. Your pi 2 should be fine unless you plug in something additional that sucks alot of juice like I did.

There are games in raspbian. There are book reviews and other stuff in the magpi. Stella is fun. Adafruit may have suggestions. Sonic pi gives instant gratification.

Re: LiquidSky Coming to Raspberry Pi

I don't really get what their excited about. Also where did you see the raspberry pi part at? This would be great for steam but I'm not a huge modern gamer. If they had a good music software offering I'd check it out but they're talking about audacity.
