"Yes, it needs the uinput module. Load this manually with 'modprobe uinput', or automatically by adding 'uinput' to /etc/modules. Then you need to run it as root, with perhaps the -d switch to make it ran as a daemon. Adding the line '/usr/local/bin/pikeyd -d' to /etc/rc.local makes it run as root a...
Hey AirBurn, first off, did you start the PiKeyD Daemon? You need to have it run as a Daemon to work with the terminal. Do this by running it as: pikeyd -d 2nd, have you setup the conf file? This file is where you specify what GPIO pin does what key. 3rd, if you have setup the config file, are you c...
I not sure about getting a CD-ROM reader working, but getting a DS1 gamepad going is really easy, and you DON'T need to buy anything (sort of). http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=15787 This post includes an little bit of software that allows you too hook up all sorts of gamepads ...
AdvMAME works fantastic for me, I've compiled it from source and that took about an hour or so to do. After that I edited the advmame.rc file to change the device_keyboard variable to raw, and installed PiKeyD. I then managed to get a button hooked up to a Pi's GPIO and set as the coin slot. PCSX-Re...
Thanks for the reply, so you think I should replace the 10K resistor in the second larger circuit with a 1K resistor. And yes, I will most definitely try this out on a breadboard first.
Awesome! I just tried it and it works :D. Perfect. I'm glad I've managed to help someone :D I figure the reason it doesn't work on auto is because on auto it AUTOmatically defines the first keyboard it sees as the only keyboard, where as raw tells it to get its information from the system instead. ...
Ok, so using PiKeyd I've managed to setup a single switch that acts as the coin slot in MAME. To do this I just made a simple circuit and hooked it up to the GPIO. Like so: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ts9be5etrugpqe/Diagram%202.jpg I would like to transfer this same diagram to all 17 pins and have cr...
Just thought I'd let people know, you don't need to disconnect your keyboard to get AdvMAME working, all you need to is change the device_keyboard attribute towards the top of the advmame.rc (or advmenu.rc) from auto to raw, works perfectly for me.
Hello, I'm currently building an arcade cabinet and hooking up 9 buttons and 2 8-way joysticks, this should take up 17 pins on the Pi, plus the ground and the 3v3 pins. This would work, but I would like to free up some pins in case I would like to use them for something else. So my question is, is t...
I don't have an exact link but I'd recommend adafruit (google it). Last time I was there they had screens from 1.5 inches all they way to 10. And I think they do touch as well.
<t>Personally i use MochaVNC (free iphone/ipad app) to control my linux box witch runs x11vnc server, which was soooooooooooooo easy to install and setup. And if i want to SSH i use the iPhone terminal app (jailbreak and download through cydia), of course you could pay th $10 to get iSSH which is pr...
Oh, I just remembered. To get a program to run on boot, you edit the profile file in etc, so you"d use "sudo nano /etc/profile" which would open a text editor, just add the command at the bottom of the file and done
<r>Well, it just so happens I"ve been looking for a 7" screen myself. Here"s the one I found:<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.camaccessories.com/.....52281.html">http://www.camaccessories.com/.....52281.html</URL><br/> <br/> It"ll connect to the Pi via the RCA port, and has a resolution of 800x480, ...
<t>Ok, so in short, I should a bit more before I embark on this. But thanks for the explanations, I knew of watts, amps and volts, I just forgot what was what. I"ll have a goolge around and try and rap my head around all this, cause I think a little "station" with 8 or 16 batteries hooked up to a so...
<t>Hi, I have been looking into creating a solar powered Raspberry Pi. My idea was to have a solar panel generating 350mah and up, so that the Pi could run off the solar panel forever (evil grin), hooked up to 4 x AA rechargeable batteries, through a 5v regulator and into the Pi.<br/> <br/> My quest...
<t>I have one of those 480x234 (or whatever) displays in the form of a miniature TV. Attaching the composite input to my BBC Micro, I found that text was legible (even showing the top line - normally hidden on a CRT without adjusting the scanout) but graphics would be distorted, because it doesn"t ...
<r>Right, I found a pretty cool battery pack idea. It uses 4 3000mah rechargeable AA"s. Which gives you about 3 hours use, excluding the screen. But this pack is pretty cool because it includes a solar panel. Which, for some people, would be pretty neat. So for the batteries and the actual pack, you...
<r>Thanks sooo much sirlagz, the USB wifi dongle is an eighth of the price of my one (OMG :O).<br/> <br/> But the touch overlay isn"t cheaper because earlier is mentioned a $20 one, HOWEVER this one includes all the components for a USB connection, making the extra $15 worth it, but if we take the $...
<r>Right, I found a new 7" screen, sadly it"s $30 more expensive taking the cost to roughly $130, but the resolution is 800x480 which should run a NetBook size desktop.<br/> <br/> 7" Screen: $50<br/> <URL url="http://www.camaccessories.com/.....52281.html">http://www.camaccessories.com/.....52281.ht...
<t>Well, if your doing this PLEASE post your plans cause id love to do this.<br/> <br/> Now onto your questions.<br/> <br/> 1) Yes, you can set programs to start on boot. I cant remember exactly but you edit a login script and ad the command you want to run (i.e "./mame")<br/> <br/> 2 and 2a) No, th...
<r>jbeale said: <br/> <br/> <br/> No idea how well it works, but here's a bare resistive touchscreen panel for under US$20. You'd have to supply your own driver electronics, but that's fairly easy.<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-inch.....0863730910">http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-inch.......
<t>JeremyF said: <br/> <br/> <br/> A couple things to note:<br/> <br/> <br/> That screen is only 480x234, so extremely low-resolution<br/> That screen also does not come with a power adapter, just a handful of wires sticking out (like all these backup camera screens do)<br/> Most touch screen overla...
