Re: RPi3 WiFi issues (still)

can test if i is a power management of the wifi being on. also is there any possible interference to the Pi or crowded WiFi AP in your area? I do not have a Pi 3 but i have a 24/7 RPi 2B as WiFI AP and I wrote a script to check if the network is working if not then reconnect to net or restart hostap...

Re: Diagnosing hard crashes, USB drive

OK, here's the DrOK watching the hard drive, about half an amp. I've seen it up around 0.6 depending what's going on. The voltage is a nice 4.99 volts most of the time. I assume that's probably the output regulator in the power supply holding it at that. Except if the line voltage does a nosedive a...

Re: Diagnosing hard crashes, USB drive

I have set the output to 5.5v-ish since lower than that I have the same problem as yours the system is unreachable and the Pi's RED led is blinking refers to a low voltage condition (<4.65V) This is a dangerous solution. If your regulator produces 5.5V, when you shut down and current consumption dr...

you can write a script to check if the network is up (by pinging or other methods) then reconnect if ping timed out. you can execute the script via cron jobs

Re: Power on a modem at boot

I've found the schematic for Unit B here: https://www.waveshare.com/w/upload/2/20/GSM-GPRS-GNSS-HAT-Schematic_.pdf . Looking at the section in the middle at the bottom (titled 'RPI GPIO'), it would appear that the power gpio is number 17, and so the code I have in /etc/rc.local should work (but doe...

Re: Second SD card went read-only - Is shutdown -h now safe?

shutdown -h now is safe. but I have my shutdown script that terminates all process that I run (killall, pkill -KILL <name>) and then execute 'sync' then the last command is the shutdown (sudo poweroff). if you do not write data to SD card often you should set the OS to read only, disable dphys swap, ...

2. type kodi
3. wait for it to crash
4. copy the error log from the lxterminal and post it here

Re: how to automatically disable wifi when wired connection is present (stretch).

you can write a script (python or bash or whatever you want) to detect if the ethernet has an IP address (indicates connection) then disable wifi via putting interface down or rf-kill) example: sudo ifconfig -a (ip -a in stretch) to get network interfaces name (ens32,eth0,wlan0) the script to detect...

Re: Struggling to find/build a 5v to 6V step-up regulator.

The LM386 works fine with a 5 volt supply. The maximum available output power before the onset of clipping will be slightly less than with a 6 volt supply. Well I'm currently using the LM386 for driving a 3.5mm headphone jack and 8Ohm Speaker. Would the 5V be able output enough power for it to driv...

if you are going to open ssh port to the world you should install a firewall (ufw) and Intrusion Detection/Prevention System like Fail2ban (don't mind the name its a hack) to block brute forcers be careful to not ban yourself

the Pi's gpio is 3v3 powered you should not connect them with the 5v power pins. Does the Red and green LED still work? I do not know if Pi3 has a polyfuse but you should wait for days before powering it up wait for the polyfuse to heal

also when trying to copy files you should add quotes

Re: External hard drive unmounts then remounts.

try to check the USB cable to HDD and Pi. set the Pi configuration to max_usb_current. The 3.5" HDD is externally powered so this should not be a problem. Also check the S.M.A.R.T status of the disk
