Re: Diagnosing hard crashes, USB drive

the camera picture is out of focus so it is kinda hard to read. Setting that aside, are you sure you have adequate power to the drive? it may appear that the drive randomly disconnects and reconnects to Pi so you are having filesystem errors. Can you also check the S.M.A.R.T status of the drive if t...

here are the post that deals with the usb booting: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bootmodes/msd.md https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/pi-3-booting-part-i-usb-mass-storage-boot/ unfortunately I do not have a Pi 3 so I cannot test this boot process but I use the microsd o...

Re: Do Pi model A's support internet & ethernet connection

The Pi2 is the older brother to the Pi3, a bit slower but lacks the trendy WiFi and Bluetooth, not really worth the cost saving. Quite often the Pi2 is more expensive than the Pi3. See RS for example: Pi2 http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/1259525/?grossPrice=Y&cm_mmc=UK-PLA-DS3A-_-google-_-PLA...

Re: Automatically backup network drive

i have no idea on how to simlify the backup and restore process since the PCs are on different OS (windows and gnu/linux). You can create a cronjob on the Pi and execute a backup script that will access the windows pcs and transfers data to the drive. or you can search for syncthing as a sync but no...

make sure that the Pi has connection to internet. try ping raspberrypi.org and jessie is now oldstable we now use the stretch if your pi image is old you need to reimage the Pi or just upgrade to stretch. add this to /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/raspbian/ stretch main...

Re: Creating If Statement Based off Sensor Reading

you should post the code you have to help you debug it. generally what you want to do is get sensor data then use conditional if/then/else statements if the sensor reading is at a certain value.

Re: Can I log data 24/7 and also run 2 network drives

regarding the usage of hdds are all answered before please try to use search engine. my pi is running a usb hdd 2.5" but thevpi may not handle another hdd since it eats current unless you have a good PSU that outputs more current than the official PSU of 3A

Re: power source for the external hard disk drive (RPi 3)

How about the newer Pi3 Model B? Can it handle 2 external usb drives better? you need a quality PSU for the Pi since 2 USB HDD will eat a lot of current. I have tested only one HDD connected to Pi directly with Y-cable (24AWG-2C/28AWG-1P) powered by MP1584 DC DC buck converter. You may want a USB p...

Re: Stop infinite loop from startup console

I’ve edited the .bashrc file then started running a script on startup so that happens. is it possible to edit the .bashrc file by connecting sd card to pc? Not on Windows, but you can do it with Linux. If you don't have a Linux PC you could boot most PCs from a Linux Live USB stick, or put another ...

Re: Full schematic for the Pi3 and Zero

I am hoping that the Pi hardware and software be 100% open sourced so it can be endorsed by the FSF (Free software foundation) and of course you can get a peace of mind and the four essentials of freedom (software without binary blobs) if you know what the hardware does to make sure it does not have...

Re: Exact moment in the past when throttling occured

you can write a python or bash script to execute the vgencmd get_throttled command with date so you will know what time/date it occured. you can run the script it crontab for about 1 minute. example bash script: checkthr.sh #!/bin/bash date >> /home/pi/THROTTLED.log vcgencmd get_throttled >> /home/p...

can you run the transmission-daemon using the Pi user. 0 i did not run my transmision using systemctl because of that same problem. copy the settings fron /etc/transmission-daemon to home folder .config
example:

Code: Select all

sudo su pi -c "transmission-daemon -f --log-debug -g /home/pi/.config/transmission &

Re: 12v UPS DIY circuit attiny85 lm317

The ATtiny 85 has it''s own watchdog. It can be figured to a maximal timeout of 8 seconds; for example to create an interrupt. If you combine this with an additional counter, which reacts only after 38 (8*38=304 which is 5 minutes and 4 seconds) - Could this be a solution? And the pin-change-interr...

Pin 1 will be used to monitor the voltage divider seet to 3v3 for battery monitor. just do not make it below 2.5v or else will reset the attiny85 right? I'm not sure, if this will work; there is also a pull-up-resistor on the RESET-pin? May be, you have to set the RESET-DISABLE-fuse and you must us...

it is not pointless to connect a usb hdd to 2 ports of the pi usint a y cable. if i do not connect the other cable to the port the hdd fails and pi wont boot. That sounds like a problem with the cable (either the data connector has no power connection, or the power conductors are too thin). The poi...
