Re: Pi zero - micro USB (OTG) hub not working

I've been through a few AND with the A+ which has a similar problem. Oddly a plug in keyboard and mouse that often doesn't work yet the WiFi does. Also found the micro USB port a bit dodgy on the Zero as a Wiggle can disconnect it and that is with the magazine cable too. Shame they didn't use a mini...

Re: i'm new just plugged in nothing happens

just plugged my new raspberry pi 3 nothing happening download noobs and everything I think if anyone can thanks Redownload and follow the NOOBS setup https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/noobs-setup/ I assume that is what you tried but no harm in doing it again. Maybe just reformat the SD card and copy...

Re: NOOBs install from Android?

I have a nice compact, only just bigger than the SD card, adaptor that came with some Kingston cards I'll be using. Now I can't find my Pi3 card, Pi Zero and is card is MIA (Pi3 card does not work in Zero for some reason) Hopefully the B+ card is still working that I have here and I can find that as...

Re: NOOBs install from Android?

doh! that should read exFAT (the one often used for SD cards) not FAT32. FAT32 is needed for the 4GB+ that is obviously need for NOOBS. I blame it on getting in from work and not being able to find my PiZero and the uUSB to USB cable. The things are two damn small ;-) (exFAT is a no go, just read th...

NOOBs install from Android?

I've always installed NOOBS and setup my Pi's via NOOBS. But I don't have access to a winows PC to do it as per the instructions. There does not seem to be any instructions for the many users that don't use windows and only have Android Phones/Tablets etc. Are there any clear steps for this? I've ne...

Re: Ways to reduce power usage?

For reference t seems the B used 330mA idle and WiFi are extra on that?

You're saying the A+ is better than the Zero for this, it cost a lot more though ;-)

I have both and would have thought the Zero would be better.

A quick search on the Zero power usage brought up this, has some advice you can probably use on the B too.

Re: Ways to reduce power usage?

If this wasn't a PI and a PC/Android I would underclock and undervolt the processor, set a profile/governor that did just what you need while doing the least amount. WiFi needs to be placed into the lowest power and higher power save mode, may even stick a homemade directional mod on it to keep it s...

Re: Creating a colorimeter with Scratch

If you wanted to make a mock-up curvette holder, actually quite a robust one. Then use some Lego to create a square section for the holder and the technics logo bit with the holes in fit led/photodetectors nicely. Another expansion, if the students don't already do it, would be use tricolour LEDs an...

Re: GPS via UART on Jessie-Pi3 Has Anything changed ?

Thanks. I'll give that a go. I assume the A+ will just ignore all these extra parameters, i'll find out when I stick the card in them with GPS attached before moving it to the Zero as well. Zero is going to be just GPS and maybe a 1-wire temp. But the A+ has GPS, SenseHAT, 1-Wire temp and Camera all...

Re: GPS via UART on Jessie-Pi3 Has Anything changed ?

I had searched for GPS and UART as that is what I had used to find my answers before. Never crossed my mind it was the Pi3, hence I assumed it was a change in Raspian and posted in the Raspian section to get everyones knowledge. Which has worked :D even if it is not actually Raspian that has forced ...

Re: GPS via UART on Jessie-Pi3 Has Anything changed ?

Thanks, doesn't explain my garbage but I'll switch to serial0 next from s0 and see if that helps. I'll also recheck go get my Pi2 back from wherever it ended up and check it still works there. I know stuff changes but it starts to render these thing useless in education when things are not compatibl...

Re: GPS via UART on Jessie-Pi3 Has Anything changed ?

OK thank it worked, sort o. For a few reading it gets the ifo but it skips and misses lots of readings. Looking in cat output after a few reading a jumble of mess comes through, then data then mess etc. Also not tried this back on the PiZero and A+ yet but hopefully will once I've sorted this jumble...

Re: GPS via UART on Jessie-Pi3 Has Anything changed ?

Is this change documented anywhere and is it just the Pi3 that needs this as that buggers up compatibility if it is hardware and not Raspian. As I'm writing it on the Pi3 as it's easier and plan to move it to A+ and Zero's and some might be run for testing on B2's before going to the smaller devices...

GPS via UART on Jessie-Pi3 Has Anything changed ?

Hi, I have been using my uBLOX GPS via a UART connection on the Pi. All I've been doing is looking and playing on a raspberry B+ an B2 (a few months back Jessie last time) all working nicely. No coding as yet. So today I set it up as usual on my usual way with a new fresh up to date Jessie on a nice...

Re: Raspberry Pi B+/GPS over serial

Did you managed to get geotagging working? I wish to geotag the RasPi Camera info from my GPS data (ublox viad UART) Both are working, but what do you use to Geotag the images when taken? In see in the camera I can use EXIF, just wondered if there was already some code (python 3 pref) to take the UA...

Re: Raspberry Pi A+ USB port bent pins

I would certainly say this is not our fault. It should be able to take a connector with no issues. I've never seen it happen to a USB in all my time. Given these are standard WiFi and keyboard/mouse connector (Dell and branded wifi). Also given they are designed for the education environment above a...

Been having the exact same problems for a while and have been going round and round. Gpsmon was always fine, but cgps etc never worked.

I'll try that very last bit.

(Only tried on A+/B+/B2 since Jessie was released)

Re: Astro Pi Temperature Sensor Reading

Having of course the same problem I tried the ribbon cable and doesn't really help much. I found if I use a 1Wire DS18B20 as well, it much better and takes little room on top or even using the longer probe style. For a few quid for 5 of them it may make your calibration better. (Given you can read f...

B+ and 2B will work out of the box with a new Raspian image (did for me via Noobs recent)

Doubt you would be buying/getting B's (original style with less GPIO pins) at this time.

Datalogging, Seeing data/realtime graphs on teachers comp.

Hello, We have been using the Pi's for a while now (Rockets and onboard CanSat style datalogging, nothing has quite worked well yet but that's due to learning). Anyway, Since I now have a few A+ and SenseHats I intend to use them in the Science classroom for datalogging. But we need to see the data,...

I've just bought 3 A+'s for our school projects and while setting up we were having USB problems, noticed on has a lot of the pins bent backwards another one bent back and of course this has written them off and my B+ and the older B has not had any problems. Luckily the third A+ and hasn't yet. Do ...
