Re: How to hide "USB Removed" dialogue/alert?

The latest Raspbian, released yesterday, significantly reduces the number of warnings that a drive has been removed, but if you are actually just deliberately pulling mounted drives, you will be warned, because it is something you shouldn't do; whether it has worked so far or not, sooner or later, y...

Let's hope they haven't broken Bluetooth like they did with networking with all their customisations. Let's see if /etc/networking/interfaces works correctly in this update. <sigh> No, "they" (or to put it another way, me) haven't "broken" Bluetooth - I've given it a UI which is clean, elegant and ...

Changes from NuScratch15012016 to NuScratch02052016

Changes from NuScratch15012016 to NuScratch02052016 The major change is in swapping from use of wiringPi to pigpio. This made it easier to extend the GPIOServer to support model servos and the SR04 series ultrasonic sensors so popular with robotics tinkerers. We are using the pigpiod daemon rather t...

Re: Application launch toolbar-issue

Sorry - I've only just spotted this. I can't replicate the problem that you are seeing - what you are trying to do works fine for me. I install iceweasel with apt; this causes Iceweasel to appear in the main menu under the Internet category. I then right-click in the launchbar, and open "Application...

Re: New Open GL Driver, Bug report thread

Hey, I hope I'm not too late to report something. I don't know how to use issue tracking on Github, so perhaps someone on the forums could help me out. After enabling the OpenGL drivers, a black border has appeared when using Files - the file explorer based on Nautilus. The black border is always p...

Re: 02-03-jessie overclock

Ah - ok, my apologies. The issue is with Pis which have had their warranty bits set - my detection code does not take this into account (as all the ones I tested didn't have warranty bits set). I've pushed a fix to raspi-config which will appear on apt before too long, but if you want to correct it ...

raspi-config should offer overclocking on Pi 2, and this was tested extensively before release.

Can you please open a terminal window, type "cat /proc/cpuinfo" and post the results here?

Modesty prohibits me from mentioning my own series "Customising the Raspbian Desktop", which can be found in the Magpi Raspberry Pi Projects Book, available in all good bookstores or as a free download from https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/issues/... That should give you a good idea as to how to st...

Re: How does one add a new item to the Menu?

The menu editor has a strange bug that I have not yet got to the bottom of - the first time you use it, it doesn't work properly, and changes do not take effect. You need to launch the menu editor, make a change somewhere in the menu with it (which will have no effect), hit OK and reboot. Thereafter...

Re: WPA_GUI

Have you got a supported wi-fi device plugged into the USB port? The message you are seeing indicates that the Pi cannot find any wi-fi hardware, which means you either don't have a dongle plugged in, the dongle is broken, or the dongle doesn't have a compatible driver.

Re: missing panels and menu

Try reflashing the card - I've seen this sort of thing happen a few times when something goes wrong in the preparation of the card. Flashing the card again tends to fix it.

Are you sure your card is big enough to hold the image? You'll need an 8GB card; the Jessie image won't fit on a 4GB card.

Re: Jessie expand disk

This has been discussed at Pi Towers. Fundamentally, it is no different from the previous situation - just because raspi-config launched and had "Expand filesystem" as an option, there was nothing to indicate to a new user that expanding the f/s was something they actually needed to do. raspi-config...

Re: Build full system image from source procedure

Spindle has not been updated for the Jessie image, and is not likely to be... Spindle was used when the Foundation's Raspbian image was a small delta on vanilla Raspbian. Over the last year or so, the size of the delta has grown a lot, so we are looking into producing a new tool which copes better w...

I should add here that anyone using the new Jessie image now has a nice GUI for setting timezone - in the Raspberry Pi Configuration application, click the Set Timezone button on the Localisation tab and select your zone from the dropdowns.

This isn't a definitive answer, but as a starting point, the files that I suggest you keep on the new Jessie image include: /home/pi/.themes/PiX/* /home/pi/.config/lxpanel/* /home/pi/.config/lxsession/* /home/pi/.config/openbox/* /home/pi/.config/pcmanfm/* /home/pi/.config/libfm/* /home/pi/.config/g...

STICKY: How to upgrade a Wheezy image to Jessie (both defunct and replaced versions of Raspbian) [thus obsolete]

We have tested the following method to update from a card containing a vanilla Wheezy image (the latest version dated 5/5/15) to Jessie. This technique is not guaranteed to work on every modified image, but it should give a good starting point. We strongly advise that you BACK UP YOUR CARD BEFORE YO...

+1 The problem with the current new simpler configuration tools is, that they are not compatible with the regular ones (lxappearance and obconf) and you have to use either one or the other. To hide that embarrassing fact, the default tools are now hidden from the menu. It shouldn't be too difficult...

Is there any chance you guys could use /etc/alternatives/desktop-background instead of hard coding in the Raspberry Pi desktop background in /etc/xdg/pcmanfm/LXDE-pi/desktop-items-0.conf ? Yes, that's a great idea. Except that what is actually displayed under LXDE is read from the user's config set...

As hippy says, either use the GUI in the desktop, or modify the Ethernet lines in /etc/network/interfaces as before if you want a static address.
