Re: Potential power source

Yes – you"re quite right and I"m quite embarrassed. Thakns for pointing that out.
Ahem, still, I wonder whether placing a capaicitor in paralell with the powersupply would work as way to cope with unexpected energy demad?

"someone" should trawl this site"s posts for repots of working cards and not working cards and make a list – if I get the time I might do that and post the findings on this thread…

Re: Potential power source

<t>Hi - having read the other posts I have erred towards caution as recomended by the sensible part of my brain and upgraded my battery pack from 600mAh to 800mAh. Despite this the reckless part of my brain has asked whether there is however some way to wire up a capacitor in parallel to the power s...

Re: Gumberoo - making a new Learning Language

<t>I guess then the "best for what" question in this instance is "best easy to learn general language for Pi hardware + kids" - perhaps it is Python? Need that language necessarily be different to one that is "best for grown-ups wanting to do advanced stuff". If not then my view is that kids who oth...

I"d like to see my son using something like that - is it a kind of "4th generation language" ie. you tell it WHAT to do and it figures out HOW to do it itself?

Re: Gumberoo - making a new Learning Language

<t>Must be something wrong with me – I obviously don"t have the "right mindset" – if most oo 3g languages are pretty much the same other than wher they put their dots and commas, I"d rather learn one and stick to it than chop and change and get confused. I understand programming and enjoy it but don...

Sometimes you get beautifuly decorated and laquered papier mache boxes on the Antiques Roadshow so I guess it could be a thing of beauty.

I would use the Pi as the brain for a robot buggy because it is small and light.

Re: Straw poll for home print cardboard case: What printer do you have?

<t>I have no ideas of my own but I think this one is fab – cheap computer – cheap case. I have an HP officejet 6310. In my experience printers wait until your back is turned and then jam just to get attention. Stiff paper templates / mache could be the way forward…? I like the idea of mixing high an...

@mahjongg

pretty lights – bleep bleep – you need that to get kids hooked but once the thrill has worn off you need to give them something they can grow with. The pi costs £30 so kids won"t think twice about binning it if they out grow it

If you get a Cannon camera you can hack it by "updating" the firmware via the SD card using CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit) and then program it using LUA scripts to do things beyond the factory settings - google CHDK....
