Re: Robot Motor Control

Can you post the specifications of the motors you want to use? At a minimum: voltage stall current Without that information it is not possible to determine what motor drivers you will need. If you have already found a motor controller that meets the specifications of the motors you want to use, ple...

Robot Motor Control

Hi,

I'm considering building a robot with 6 wheels (6 motors). Can a Gertboard control the 6 motors? Can it modulate them? Is there a better way than a Gertboard?

Thanks

Re: Setting up WiFi

Apparently, I'm going to have to wipe the card and start over. I read that it's better to use OS X rather than Windows to download Raspian. Apparently, Windows does something to eat up most of the disk capacity. Do you agree? Thanks.

Re: Setting up WiFi

I am rethinking what you said. If NOOBS is preinstalled on the card then I cannot use the card with my Macbook because SSH will not connect with NOOBS. If only the Raspian OS is on the card, then I can connect with my Macbook through SSH. If the above 2 sentences are correct, then I've got a problem...

Re: SSH Language

Yes, but after the link is established commands are issued. Is that done in the Python language? Thanks, No that's bash style shell (environment). You can issue linux commands directly. Not python instructions. Crash course: http://cli.learncodethehardway.org/book/ Thanks, I think that's what I was...

Good, then it should be just a matter of logging into the Pi (using wired ethernet), configure the Wifi connection and you're good to go :)

Re: Pi/Laptop Interface

I read you can use Putty on a laptop to connect to the Pi with SSH. But Putty first asks for the IP address that you want to connect to. Initially, I don't know that address. Does it somehow appear on my Macbook screen? Thanks if you log onto your router's web interface it will show you a list of c...

I downloaded Fing. It's an interesting program but for some reason it didn't show my laptop. Oh well.

Re: Pi/Laptop Interface

You didn't take my hint that you would find more detailed info if you took the trouble to look for it. Yes and yes. Yes, I did look at the information. However, it seemed to be instructions for people who had a monitor and keyboard to plug into the Pi. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place. I re...

Re: Pi/Laptop Interface

If I connect my Pi to the internet router with an ethernet cable, will the system automatically assign an IP address to the Pi?

Using my Macbook, wirelessly connected to the same internet, can I find out what that new address is?

I don't have a stand a lone monitor and keyboard. It doesn't seem practical to buy them for one time usage. Is there a way to connect to my laptop to get things going.

Pi/Laptop Interface

Hi,

I just ordered a B+ with power supply, NOOB card and USB Wi-Fi. I would like to use my laptop's screen and keyboard to control the Pi. To get started, I need to connect the Pi to the internet. But how? Thanks.

Re: Attaching an Ubuntu USB HDD

Is there a reason for not installing Ubuntu directly to your MacBook (assuming it's possible). I would use the external disk for data transfer only. Note that you can't simply share programs between Linux installs , especially different distributions. "Portable apps" are almost unheard of in the Li...

Re: Ubuntu HDD

"whole programs that you can work with" are held in files that have to be stored somewhere! I think there is a major disconnect between your vocabulary and/or mental model of a computer system and that which most helpers here - including myself - are familiar with. Yes, you are probably right. I'm ...

Re: Ubuntu HDD

Regards Hard Drive for both the Mac and RPi, maybe a NAS drive connected to your Router may be a better solution. The RPi has an ARMv7 CPU and your MAC has an x86 CPU. Therefore as you are using Debian based Operating System - Ubuntu, installing Raspbian Wheezy on the RPi, any Python Program cross-...
