Re: New 8MP Camera - Q&A thread

@Koepi : Thanks for taking the time to do that test. AFAIK these are the first full-resolution 8Mpixel examples online from the new RPi v2 camera. I am sorry to see that it does appear there is a Scheimpflug (lens-sensor axis alignment) problem in this particular instance. Here's the full res versi...

Re: Raspberry pi 3 model A release date?

Is there any official or estimated release date for Raspberry Pi 3 Model A ??? On Pi3 launch day Eben was interviewed in the Pi Podcast. One of the things he said was that there would be a Pi3 A with wifi later in the year. So the chances are it'll be some time between now and the end of this year :)

Re: New Camera Module

I'd been using default settings so far, but actually you can force the resolution using

Code: Select all

-w 3280 -h 2464
and it works. It's still so overcast around here though that I've yet to take a decent photo with it.

Re: New Camera Module

Ordered mine too, the Pihut was also up early on twitter this morning! Alex, did you notice any quality improvements? Amount of megapixels is not all that determines video quality. Amount of noise, contrast range to name a few matter too. Hans, I only got one Saturday evening. The light was already...

I fully updated/upgraded before I tried out my Picams on Saturday. The software appears to still shoot in 5 Mpx.

Hopefully an update will be incoming soon :)

Re: PiZero IoT HAT (bluetooth+wifi for $9)

Alex, I totally agree, it's NOT a HAT. I know you do Keith. We are in agreement. I was just pointing out the second area it doesn't line up with the spec, which specifies the size of the header, which must therefore be attached. But until the Foundation revise the spec or issue a new one for the Pi...

And the connector, since some will be provided without connector. Maybe I'm being a bit picky, but something either meets the specs or doesn't.

Re: PiZero IoT HAT (bluetooth+wifi for $9)

that's unfortunate as a lot of pi users don't have the advanced soldering skills to do fine soldering. it cost me £15 to get a header on my pi zero, so would mean another £15 for an engineer to add a header to allow access to the other pins. That's ridiculously expensive. You should have posted a r...

Well it's not a HAT. OK, pHAT, cap, kippah, boater, lid, whatever. I personally like 'beret', as in 'Raspberry beret', especially appropriate today. I'm only grumpily expressing my annoyance as someone who did stick to the rules in order to be able to legitimately use the term HAT to market a...

Re: Model A+ memory boost

Presumably the A+512 will have a new board revision set, in which case the firmware can act on that & assume the soc is the 1GHz part, setting the default clocks & over_voltage similar to the Zero. Farnell are still describing it as having a 700MHz cpu & 400MHz RAM, but seeing as they are still sta...

Re: Why Is wolfram-engine included?

I didn't say that I hated it, just that it's not what I'd call a core capability. You're right, though, that the Foundation gets to decide what they put in their distro. But I'm also free to suggest ways they could improve it, and to point out where I think they've missed the mark. Contributing to ...

Because I didn't realize how honking HUGE it was going to be before I started the upgrade. And that's not my question. Which is, to repeat, >>why is it in the core distro in the first place<<? There are >>tons<< of packages that are not in the core distro. Why this one, which many people have compl...

It's not strictly a HAT, so they are bit naughty using that designation but it does look like a nice board.

I don't know what a "distis" is, unless you mean the latin imperfect "repealed". I find that information about the availability of the Pi is best from the actual resellers (all of which are named by Eben in his message), either sign up to their email notifications or follow them on twitter. Re: What to do when you have a prototype ready?

Many people go to step 2 and make a permanent prototype on stripboard or veroboard next.

Once you get fed up of that, you'll start going straight to a PCB as it saves a lot of time piddling about, but you have to go through the fairly painful process of learning a PCB creation package.

Re: The Eastern European maker pipe dream

Edit: I was under the impression that the Pi is open hardware - or did those plans not go through? I'm not imagining building one at home, of course. The Pi is not and never has been open hardware. If local distributors are over-charging for Pi, why not buy them in bulk from UK and distribute yours...
