Re: What is faillog? How to diagnose a crash.

Thanks for the reply, at least I know what faillog is now :) It locked up again shortly afterwards, I couldn't access the web page it generates and couldn't ssh into it, but I was about to have dinner so left it. When I cam back to it it was running again, so had recovered without reboot. I noticed ...

What is faillog? How to diagnose a crash.

One of my Pi's, which runs headless, had crashed. Power cycle and it is up again but I am trying to determine what caused it, so a few questions - 1) How can I see what caused the crash? I have looked at some of the log files, the one which show something is daemon.log, here is an extract Nov 23 10:...

Cannot Search Forum

I can no longer search the forum. The search icon in the top bar is there, but that searches the main site not the forum. There used to be a search box just to the right on 'New Topic' from memory, but it is no longer there and I cannot search the forum at all.

What is going on?

Re: wifi dies

Changed to a 3m USB3 cable, no difference, wifi dies after a few minutes. I did notice that it re-tries if I unplug the USB and plug in again, I also noticed that wifi is technically working in that it adds a neighbours wifi to the list, but will not reconnect to mine. Can this be down to using a do...

Apache and SSH both die

I have a pi3 which is running a headless control system. I can access information via a web page on the Pi. At random times, maybe weeks apart, I cannot access the web page, getting an error Forbidden You don't have permission to access /solar/solar_devices_2.php on this server. Apache/2.4.10 (Raspb...

Re: wifi dies

It is a USB3 cable, but I have just ordered a 3M USB3 to be safe.

However if that was the problem I would have expected the wifi to maybe be unreliable but to be able to reconnect, whereas when it goes a reboot seems to be the only cure.

wifi dies

I have a Pi3 in my garage and I am trying to connect via wifi. Because of the position of the Pi it could get a good signal, so I used a USB cable and wifi dongle to get to a better position for signal. I have disabled the internal wifi by adding dtoverlay=pi3-disable-wifi to the end of /boot/config...

wifi connect as ip but not as pi.local

My pi is called pi-ox. It has an IP of 192.168.1.70 which is fixed by the access point binding the wifi dongle mac address to the IP address. From the pi I can ping the router and other devices and connect to the internet. From my desktop I can ping the pi via it's IP but not as pi-ox.local I have a...

Universal G-Code Sender - Visualizer

Hi, How do I get the Visualize function to work in UGS? I am running version 2.0.0 stable on a Raspberry Pi. I have checked that Java is version 8. When I load g-code and press the Visualize button nothing happens. If I run UGS from a terminal I see loads of messages which don't mean a lot to me. Th...

How to download stock (share) prices

I have some Python code which I wrote a few years back which would download a stock price from a Yahoo site using url = "http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=%s&f=sl1d1c1hgv" % symbol This site seems to have disappeared. Does anyone know of another site giving the ability to auto downloa...

Re: MariaDB PDO Driver - No Value

OK maybe my database is not good, that is something I can look at later. The point is that it all worked in MySQL but now does not in MariaDB. It looks to me that the problem is that PDO drivers are not enabled, but I don't know what to do about it.

I have been using MySQL on Pi's for a while, but on a new install I have MariaDB and I am having trouble getting it to work. Re: Extending Wireless Range

Thanks for the feedback. A wireless repeater is not an option. From the access point in the house to the Pi is only about 20 metres, but that is made up of stairs, then a solid wall and driveway then the garage wall, so no-where to position a repeater. Network over mains may be possible. You say tha...

Extending Wireless Range

I have a Pi 3 installed in my garage, which seems to be on the limit of wireless reception from the house network. I can sometimes get a connection but not always. Is there any way to increase the sensitivity of the wireless receiver on the Pi? Maybe adding an aerial? A wired connection would be ext...

This link https://github.com/rbrito/usbmount/issues/2 has the solution.
Edit /lib/systemd/system/systemd-udevd.service and change the line
MountFlags=slave
to
MountFlags=shared
then reboot

Re: Automount any usb drive

Which version of Raspian are you using?

I have used usbmount in the past and it worked fine, but I have just re-built a Pi on Stretch (4.9.41+) and usbmount no longer works.

Has anyone else got it to work on Stretch?

Wireless only works in one direction

I have an odd problem with a new Pi3. It has no wired connection so I need to get wireless working. The Pi is set up and running, wireless configured and I can ping my router and other devices from the Pi. The problem is that I cannot ping the Pi from any other device. The Pi is set for dynamic IP, ...
