Permissions to run camera commands

I can run raspistill etc as the pi user but if I am a different user I have to use sudo. What do I need to do to the user to allow the camera commands to run without sudo?

Thanks

Re: Camera won't work

Yes indeed Jamesh, I have just tested with one of my other rev 1 Pi's and it does work, so it seems that I have a faulty one.

Are there any diagnostics that can be run to test a Pi? It seems to be fine in other respects.

Thanks

Re: Camera won't work

My new camera arrived today, just plugged it in and tried it and I get exactly the same result, so either this camera is faulty as well or something else is wrong. I will try creating a new SD image with nothing else installed and see if that makes any difference.

Re: Camera won't work

That sounds exactly the same. I'm not aware that the camera gets hot, but I have not touched it to find out. I have just ordered a new camera, so see what happens with that.

Sorry forgot to say, I think the power supply should be OK but I swapped it for a 2A supply, still the same.

Any other suggestions?

Camera won't work

I bought a camera board some months back, tried it and it worked but I have not used it since. I am now trying it again on a new install of Raspian and it won't work. Re: Very Strange Problem - 's' not working

I checked /etc/inputrc on both Pi's, the problem Pi was just a couple of lines, the good one was much bigger. I copied the good one across, rebooted and it seems fine now. Is there any point trying to find out why it happened, or should I put it down to 'just one of those things' and move on? Thanks...

Re: Very Strange Problem - 's' not working

I have tested all of the other keys, just the 's' that is not working. Even upper case 'S' works!! (pity Linux is case sensitive ;) ) In that case you may be able to type S, LeftArrow, Alt+L to switch to lower case. You can also run commands such as: /u?r/bin/?udo /u?r/bin/ra?pi-config The problem ...

Re: Very Strange Problem - 's' not working

A bit more info, I just logged in via ssh from my laptop and created a file called xx which contained a string of sssssss

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ nano xx
[email protected] ~ $ cat xx
sssssss
[email protected] ~ $
So it can display 's' but typing 's' generates a beep but no character

Confused :!:

Very Strange Problem - 's' not working

I have seen this twice now, the first time with an SD card that was a little suspect and it would not boot at all next time. This time it is on a brand new SanDisk SDHC Ultra 16GB Class 10. The problem is that I cannot type the letter 's'. I see this when logged on via ssh from my desktop, the 's' k...

Re: system-info - my RaspberryPi system summary script

Very useful, thank you. :D I was looking for a way to monitor the voltage to my Pi as I have experienced several crashes, but from what I have found it is not possible. Would monitoring the core: volt, sdram_c and sdram_p achieve a similar thing? Should I see these dip if there is a power problem? T...

/proc/ information

Is there any documentation on the /proc/ registers? I have been reading /proc/meminfo which is useful but there are a load of others and I don't know what they mean.

Specifically I would like to read voltage, is that possible?

Thanks

Re: How to Debug Crash

I had a log file which was just growing, it got to over 2 Gb at the time of the crash and there was a message - Nov 25 02:17:24 pi-d kernel: [ 32.142075] Adding 102396k swap on /var/swap. Priority:-1 extents:1 across:102396k SS which makes me wonder if that may have caused the problem. I have now fi...

Re: How to Debug Crash

It happened again at 2:17 this morning. The python program that I have running generates a log file and that stops mid line, so that was definitely killed abruptly. How to Debug Crash

My Pi crashed last night, how can I find out what caused it? Running Raspbian and I only access via ssh from another machine. I have power cycled it, started up fine and is running OK now. I set up logrotate yesterday and I think it crashed at about the time that would have kicked in, but I am not s...

I have had problems formatting SD cards as well. One thing that always seems to work is to put the card into a camera and use that to format it.

OK tried that and I get the same thing.

I also tried the same test on my rev 1 Pi, back in the original position using the same cables and ports and that works fine, no errors.

Could it be that my rev 2 Pi is faulty?

This router is actually just used as a switch, and I have tried a different port with no difference. I can try plugging it into the main router, just need to relocate everything upstairs.......
I'll be back......
