Security Camera Triggered by PIR

I am trying to set up a security camera that is triggered by a PIR sensor. I have found many posts for security cameras that use motion detection from the camera, but that won't work in my case, so I want to start recording when the PIR triggers and continue recording until a delay after it has rese...

Re: How to shut down a Pi

Maybe the title should be how to power down a pi. Let me clarify the problem. The Pi Zero, 9v battery and voltage converter are all in a small box, no keyboard, no display, no mouse, no wifi, so I cannot enter any command. It will spend most of the time switched off so must consume zero, or almost z...

How to shut down a Pi

I have just built a GPS logger using a Pi Zero and following the article in MagPi. I have powered it via a 9v batter power supply through an on/off switch. I have noticed during testing that I sometimes get data corruption, and having researched it seems that cutting the power is not a good idea, al...

Re: Using wpa_gui (Could not get status from wpa_supplicant)

No, the user 'pi' is already a member of that group. To check just open a terminal window and enter 'groups', it returns a list of the groups that your user belongs to.

Re: Using wpa_gui (Could not get status from wpa_supplicant)

Can I suggest that you add a note to check groups. The user needs to be in the netdev group. If you are user 'fred' run

Code: Select all

sudo usermod -a -G netdev fred
This caught me out for a while as I always create a new user rather than use 'pi'

No the sytem time is OK running 'date' in a terminal window on both machines returns the same time. It is just the MySQL setup that is inconsistent, but I cannot figure out how.

Re: MySQL system_time_zone

/etc/mysql/my.cnf doesn't have an entry for default_time_zone on either machine.
Is there somewhere else where it can be defined?

SELECT @@system_time_zone, @@global.time_zone
returns UTC, SYSTEM on one machine and GMT, SYSTEM on the other

MySQL system_time_zone

I have two Pi's both have MySQL installed. They were created at different times but both installed with sudo apt-get install mysql-server if I run SELECT @@system_time_zone; one returns GMT, the other returns UTC and consequently now() returns times an hour different. They both have the time zone se...

Dynamic IP's with SSH, Web pages, etc - Solved!

I have several Pi's on my network which I run headless and access from my Linux Mint desktop via SSH, Firefox and Nemo. I had set these all with static IP's and it all worked fine. I have now added a couple more Pi's with dynamic IP's. I installed avahi-daemon and when accessing these I had to appen...

Re: /dev/i2c missing

Yes adding
dtparam=i2c1=on
dtparam=i2c0=on
to config.txt has fixed it, thank you. Why has this changed? I have done this many time before and never added anything to config.txt.

Re: psutil values

Thanks for the link, it makes things a bit clearer, but I am still having a problem with free and available. Does 'free' refer to memory that has not been used at all yet, and 'available' includes 'free' and also memory that has been released by other processes?

I have tried the _netdev option and also added user=user,password=password but it still does not work. No errors, just nothing there after boot.

There must be a way to do this!!!

I have added the line sshfs#[email protected]:/home/share/pycam/ /mnt/camshare fuse user,auto 0 0 to /etc/fstab and created /mnt/camshare on the Pi and /home/share/pycam on the server If I enter sshfs [email protected]:/home/share/pycam /mnt/cam...

I have a RealTek 8188c USB WiFi adapter. I set it all up and it works fine at first, then after 15 minute or so it stops and I have no idea why.
