Re: Getting compute module setup and running

There is no setup GUIDE for getting the CM3 with IO board running (shouldn't that be fundamental info for the GETTING STARTED page)...what exists is mostly a bunch of random sounding directions & no link to the Raspbian to install ...want it set up just like pi3

Re: Getting compute module setup and running

WHY DOES THE COMPUTE MODULE3 GETTING STARTED PAGE CONTAIN NO INFORMATION ABOUT GETTING STARTED?
A RATHER POOR IMPRESSION!!!

Re: Getting compute module setup and running

you probably don't need a GUI on a compute module This sounds like very very bad news, since a gui was the purpose for buying the module...to run some LCD display's & have graphics interfaces (such as a touchscreen)& developing them with the compute module & graphical designer apps...are you saying...

Re: Getting compute module setup and running

what does this mean? how do you check (not sure what to type or exactly what to look for)...can you use the file manager? how/where does a device "appear"? After rpiboot completes, you will see a new device appear; this is commonly /dev/sda on a Pi but it could be another location such as /dev/sdb, ...

Re: Getting compute module setup and running

Is there a good video that can be followed along with--that would be the best & leave noting to chance. Don't want to lock up or destroy the board (like it could happen in as mentioned somewhere).

Re: Getting compute module setup and running

thanks RPDOm, will give your suggestions a try..I just think the instructions here are not very well written, somewhat of a jumble. ...for the regular PI..it leads you very step-by-step, unpack the box, put this memory card in your PC, do this, do that, etc. Here, it seems like they are interminglin...

Re: Getting compute module setup and running

it is the regular compute module 3 (not lite) The link is not very clear on setting up raspbian...it says: For those who just want to enable the Compute Module eMMC as a mass storage device under Windows...who care about windows?? ..it a looks like a jumble of steps going in 10 different directions....

Getting compute module setup and running

I just bought the compute module (3) & I/O board...came with no instructions. I looked for the user guide to get Raspbian running on the module, but only see it for the regular RPI. I think this one is a different set of instructions. WHERE are the setup instructions/tutorial for getting the compute...

Re: using HDMI LCD and desktop

Thanks a lot for all the good info...By the way does using the VNC mode slow down/hog the pi (compared to running headless or normal)? My app is running the PI pretty hard, so not sure how much impact VNC has.

Re: using HDMI LCD and desktop

Thanks for the tip about VNC...had no idea it was out there..would the headless mode accomplish the same thing? As I mentioned, I don't even want to show the desktop on the little HDMI LCD, I just want my graphs to appear on it (perhaps that is not possible). I just want to see the PI desktop on my ...

using HDMI LCD and desktop

Hello: I have the pi3 & latest Raspbian running fine. Recently I added a 5 inch hdmi bolt-on display with 800x600 res & edited the config file so it boots and works fine...I only want to use it to display some graphs & charts of incoming pi sensor readings. However, the screen is MUCH too small to u...

Re: control panels

Thanks for the link, I am looking for more of these. I prefer the user screen not to show any "boot up" text, just the running app (like someone just plugged in & turned on their new washing machine), but this is close. Here is one I found (thanks to your link) https://learn.adafruit.com/piphone-a-r...

I haven't found many examples of anyone actually using the rpi with a small touch display user interface to control anything (say make a digital thermostat, or front door access lock, control your garage door, adjustable countdown timer, etc ...)...if you know of some links, I'd like to see them (as...

silly lcd question

I'm thinking about adding a touch color LCD to my PI to show messages in various fonts & colors & simple line shapes. Up til now I've just been programming using my HDMI monitor to write a few I/O apps (blink some leds, read switches, etc). HOWEVER, all of the examples I've seen regarding adding on ...

something strange...I'm using bluze 5.23 when I connect with gatttool, I don't get the [ ] in front, such as [con] (though I am connected)...any reason? Re: installing bluez 5.25

I figured it out.. first, I was in the wrong directory...then, I got permission denied...then I added sudo...then it finally worked!

do:
cd bluez-5.23
sudo cp attrib/gatttool /usr/local/bin

now gatttool is "present" & runs

Re: installing bluez 5.25

I did a sudo find / -name gatttool & it came up with:

/home/pi/bluez-5.23/attrib/gatttool

so it is in there. How do you get it situated so the gatttool command works (any gatttool commands return with "command not found")

without gatttool operational, I can't investigate much

bluez command set

Hello:

Where is the information detailing the various bluez "commands"? For example, hcitool has a command lecc that accepts various optional parameters (such as -random)...where are these described & explained? what do they do?

I'm looking for a link to a document or website with the details

how/where is this installed?

installing bluez 5.25

What are the step required to install the latest version of bluez (5.25)? I'm just getting started with doing so & seems rather cryptic. I saw somewhere it requires D-Bus-1.8.12, GLib-2.42.1, and libical-1.0.1. However, even with an rpi update, my versions of these seem earlier (1.6.8, for dbus)
