If you want to use a JMicron controller, quirks are your only option. I didn't know there was an issue with JMicron controllers so I just used it and it appears to work just fine? Bus 002 Device 002: ID 152d:0583 JMicron Technology Corp. / JMicron USA Technology Corp. [ 3.145447] usb 2-2: new Super...

Re: Questions about programming on the Raspberry Pi

If you are familiar with C# I would suggest Java. I would suggest Java anyway but that's just me :-) You can develop on any computer and run it on the Pi or you can develop on the Pi. It has a good selection of widgets, excellent graphics capabilities, a huge stable API and runs quite fast once load...

Re: RPi4 - serious (UDP) network issues

Ok, I've found something, and even though I haven't finalized trying to understand what's going on I thought it was relevant enough to be shared. I have qBittorrent running with a capped speed. When the speed is capped I see the errors mentioned in my previous comment. If I remove the cap and let i...

That doesn't work?

Code: Select all

echo | sudo tee /boot/.firmware_revision
sudo rpi-update
What does that do?

pi@raspberrypi4B:/boot $ cat /boot/.firmware_revision

And it overwrote the 5.4 kernel that I had installed by accident when I was trying to get USB boot working. Anybody know how to get 5.4 back?

Thanks!
sudo rpi-update
That doesn't work, there has to be another step somewhere?

Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28

Simplest way to prep a USB boot device is to write the latest Raspberry Pi OS with desktop image to an SD card with the Raspberry Pi Imager, boot that card and do a sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo rpi-update followed by a reboot, then use the SD Card Copier utili...

Re: UFW is blocking my ftp traffic.

I think the lesson I have learned is "Don't be lazy, don't count on your memory. Write everything you do down, keep a log and backup all your important config files." Not doing so is asking for trouble, especially as one gets older and older and older.... and older ;-) :D Just so you know...

Re: Clip stop() method not working

Hello. Yes, I eventually stopped using Clip in favour of SourecDataLine, but it is a bit rubbish that Clip.stop() just doesn't seem to work on a Raspberry PI It does work. The fact that it takes a half a second to do so is not rubbish, it is just the way it is. And what's the problem with using a S...

Re: Help? was: Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28

Assuming what you posted is from an SD card that boots and runs properly, the easiest way to migrate it to a USB device is to use: usb-boot Answer 'No' to 'Use SD card to boot the USB device?'. No changes will be made to the SD card. When usb-boot completes, you should be able to shutdown and boot ...

Is his Pi not booting from usb? No it's not. Clearly I am missing some steps but I can't find a complete set of instructions anywh...

Re: Help? was: Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28

Don't forget to visit the cmdline.txt file in the boot partition, and the /etc/fstab file in the root partition. You'll most likely need to tidy up the PARTUUID in those files. To find out what the PARTUUID should be, you can run 'sudo blkid' Visit is a euphemism that I don't understand. What do I ...

Re: Clip stop() method not working

This is a test of the stream reset. It works but I'm not sure it is fast enough to work as a drum set. There is some inherent lag in making the sound come out. This example will load a cymbal crash from the web, takes a few seconds the first time but after that it is buffered. I think you could get ...

Re: Clip stop() method not working

There are a couple of ways to deal with that. You can just open another line and play another sound on top of the one already playing. Or you can stop the running one and play another. There are some limits on how many lines can be open on a Pi at one time but I think it is several. You might look a...

Re: UFW is blocking my ftp traffic.

If your computer or network are open to the internet then I think you need a firewall. UFW is a simple way to configure that firewall. If you are using wget and curl from your Pi through the VPN or not to remote servers, opening an inbound port on your Pi is not going to do anything for you. The cod...

Re: Clip stop() method not working

The delay in the Thread was just to demonstrate playing and then stopping the playing at some time later. The drain() method blocks until the buffer is completely empty. But if you call stop() you don't need drain() and it doesn't do anything in this case because the waiting Thread times out and sto...

Re: Clip stop() method not working

If you have a 5 second clip and a 5 second delay then it won't stop till the sound is finished. Take the Thread.sleep out and see if it doesn't stop. It works just fine here. There is still maybe a second and a half in the buffer that you can't get at. Try this though, it will stop right now. import...

Re: Clip stop() method not working

From your logger it looks like the Clip has stopped on its own before the 5 sec timeout. How long is your audio file? If you want the sound to stop right now, you could change the volume to 0 and then let the buffers clean themselves. I think that will still work better with a SourceDataLine than a ...
