Re: Raspberry Pi Diagnostics feedback

I have searched this thread for "diagnostics" and on line with both Google and Duck Duck Go and nowhere has there been any hint of how to get this utility or how to install it. Only one of the posts from a moderator hinted that it might live on Github but there is nothing else in this thread as to h...

Re: Audio Injector Zero Question

Good to know that flatmax and audioinjector are still alive and well...I have several of the AI stereo cards and they provide excellent record and playback quality and work well with alsa and audacity. I never was able to get much out of the github pages and found the old forum to be a better place....

Turn off backlight on MHS3.5 TFT?

I am using an MHS3.5 TFT display on an RPi 3B and Buster and it works out well but the backlight (LED) is always on, making it too bright for overnight use in the bedroom. It also uses a lot of current. This is the GPIO version (there is an HDMI variant). Has anyone found a way to turn off the backl...

Re: list of power banks that work as UPS for RPi4

The question all need to ask is if you really need a UPS or power bank for stationary use. I thought about it long and hard for the RPi 0W I keep my solar/AC water heater timed with. Turns out, it really would be silly to go to the trouble and expense. The RPi reboots when the AC comes back and as i...

i think power draw is more of a use thing. i have mine running a pihole and i store files/folders on it. it's not really that active for me. i'm in hawaii in a room with no windows, so i understand the heat thing. luckly we been getting a whole lot of rain. Also in HI (and little rainfall) and, RPi...

Re: What OS should I choose?

I agree with @PhatFil...with large (16gb+) SD cards being so cheap, having a "lite" memory footprint is less a factor than in the past when RPis got set up with 2 GB cards. You may want to go through and prune out unneeded daemons and memory resident stuff but the utility of having things like VNC a...

Re: RPI zero W with NoIR camera

Your first question is pretty hard to understand...you might try rewording it. As near as I can figure, you want an alternate power source for the IR leds...best to use an independent source such as a 5V regulator with an LM1117 to drop it further. Minimize use of the RPi's on-board 3.3V supply. LED...

I did not carefully read the prior post but it does appear to be a "hijack" and courtesy and good manners as well as proper attention require that it should be put on its own thread. Regarding the original post, I have a 1B that runs pihole and has been in continuous service for over a year with no ...

The third post in this thread https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151 is specific to your RPi0 problems. You must drill down through the first and second posts (both long). This is an older post so you must adjust for its age. Regardless of what may or may not work on other RPi...

Re: [RPI4] Negotiates down to 100mb/s in Asus router settings

You didn't say how you are connecting to the router. If by wireless, the signal quality/strength is quite variable and speed relates directly to both. The router will adjust its sending speed to compensate. Rebooting the RPi may start it up at its best speed but "conditions" may change, reducing the...

What a Bozo mistake this was. I am not even sure today why I purchased this as I have lots of other wifi dongles that just work without a lot of BS. Even on my fixed, retired budget, I have better ways to waste my time than to fool around getting a POS like this to work. I have a lot of dongles that...

I have no wish to cast aspersions on Micro-center's SD cards but I only buy branded SanDisk Ultra cards from Amazon and they work. I don't buy the heavily discounted cards down the list. They cannot be the only show in town that does but it is an area that is rife with counterfeits and they may be c...

Re: Internet power supply @ 5.45Vdc & 3.0a

You might find that you get enough voltage drop across the 5V line switch contacts to make your big supply safe. I bought a lot of 3 and they are all idle because they always got the lightning bolt warning. The measured voltage drop was below the RPi's minimum threshold. I don't use the fool things ...

Re: nano editor output not working with 3.5 Inch RPi Display Touch

The font size seems to be a problem, at least for my 3.5" (MHS 3.5 with GPIO connector). If the font is large enough to be read it tends to run off the side. The "end" key seems to get you there and the "home" key gets you back. I am using Monospace Bold 12pt. which my old eyes can read. I have just...

Re: Why my ssh connection is so slow ?

I really don't know why you are having this particular problem but my advise is to revert to the original configuration and make your RPi ip address static in the router configuration. Most reasonable routers have a way to do this in their web GUI. I have done this for all the boxes, RPi and x86, th...

Not sure why anyone would want to use a browser (of any ilk) on any RPi short of a 4B with a minimum of 2G memory. I gave up on browsing with my 3B which froze on more than 2 tabs open (3B+ and 4B-4G not out in time) and bought an x86 fanless board (Asrock J3455) with 4G and run Mint with xfce on it...

hard to beat wget in a terminal for ease of use and it will do anything the others will do if you investigate all its possibilities. Re: Controlling humidity with a fan

The DHT11 or 22 and cousins output a digital signal to a processor like the RPi which can then, with a bit of programming, control a PWM DC motor as in a fan. Not a big deal and there are probably examples online...search for the sensors and for PWM on the RPi.

Not quite sure what you are asking for. Many of the newer internal DVD drives are SATA and probably will accept SATA to USB converters. Also, many DVD drives are designed for external USB connections (for Laptops). Most all support CDs as well.

Re: Kestrel Weather Station Interface with Raspberry Pi 4

I haven't used minicom in a long time but I believe that the "Capture" function will save data to a file. You can probably set up the Kestrel to output at some predetermined rate. You can also install the cross-platform program "puTTY" on your RPi and it is graphical and quite feature rich, includin...
