I don't use cheese so I can't comment on your problem, but you might try gucview instead.

Re: Kestrel Weather Station Interface with Raspberry Pi 4

I haven't used minicom in a long time but I believe that the "Capture" function will save data to a file. You can probably set up the Kestrel to output at some predetermined rate. You can also install the cross-platform program "puTTY" on your RPi and it is graphical and quite feature rich, includin...

Re: Kestrel Weather Station Interface with Raspberry Pi 4

As you are probably aware, your Model 4500NV is currently out of print and replaced by the 5000 series but there is still quite a lot of data available on the Kestrel web pages and their "Knowledge Base". It looks to be pretty standard despite their reliance on W$ for interfacing with PCs and the RP...

Re: Kestrel Weather Station Interface with Raspberry Pi 4

Not sure what happened to my reply...gone in any case. Your detailed post was much more helpful. I noticed in a brief perusal of the Kestrel user manual that there is an access for serial data on the back of the unit and another mention of availability of .csv files. You may have to purchase the acc...

Re: Multispectral Camera for Plant UAV monitoring

I just received an email with reference to this device, recently released: https://randomnerdtutorials.com/ttgo-t-journal-esp32-camera-getting-started/ . It is not an RPi but it has the camera and wifi in a package that is cheaper than most RPi offerings. Images would require post processing in some...

Re: Kestrel Weather Station Interface with Raspberry Pi 4

You might get more assistance if you provide an actual link to Kestrel and/or post what kind of interface it provides, if any...what sort of output the RPi might see. Just that it has W$ software is of little help.

Re: fat32 sd card

No you're right, when an image is written to a raw device like Etcher does, the image contains a partition table and all the data inside the partitions, including the appropriate file systems. The previous state of the device to be written to doesn't matter at all, any existing filesystems will be ...

Was I under the wrong impression? I thought Balena-Etcher formatted the card...no need for sdformatter. Actually, it was my only reason for keeping XP Pro :D All the cards I buy (SanDisk Ultra) come formatted with W$32 already.

Re: apt-cacher-ng and Raspbian

One of the really nice things about RPis is the removable SD card. So just create a duplicate and try the app with the duplicate. Then, if you like it. use it from then on...if not, format over it with the latest Raspbian and Etcher and go back to the original SD card.

Re: Is there any resolution to protect GPIO pins of Raspberry Pi 3 B+?

In the first place, your heading makes it sound as though this is a design flaw that should be corrected by Raspberry. They are not responsible for ham fisted users that put DVM probes or other metal objects where they don't belong or do other inadvertent things. The 3V pins on the GPIO connector ar...

Re: Google home and Smart TV

You can easily have as many different OS's on your RPi as you are willing to buy uSD cards and swap them back and forth. I recall reading somewhere in these pages about a system that even allows multiple OS's on one boot uSD. The main caution is for you to pay attention to the security (or insecurit...

I had a similar problem with remote switch and a NodeMCU/8266 script. The answer is fairly simple but it is still potentially confusing as noticed by @hippy. #include <ESP8266WiFi.h> // Add wifi access point credentiaals const char* ssid ="ssid"; const char* password ="password"; WiFiServer server(8...

Re: What are some good projects if you have a data cap?

Also living in a rural area and having a 5 Gig/month cap, I have two RPis running 24/7 and several more laying around, used as needed for various tasks. A 50 Gig cap would be "mana from heaven" but I can't (or won't) afford more. Still, with the measly cap, I maintain 3 x86 PCs, the two RPi's that r...

Re: use for multi band radio receiver set-up help

It looks as though the control software for the pcr-1000 is Windows based, That means that Wine would be required to run it on the RPi or any Linux computer. While Wine is available for the RPi apt-cache policy wine I can't tell you if the control software will play with it. It works on some things ...

Re: PiHole perforamance effect on non-PiHole Pi.

I'm running PiHole on a Raspberry Pi B 1.2. This was the model released back in 2012 with 256mb ram, 24 pin header and no mounting holes. There is no noticeable difference to PC's, tablets and other pi's. If anything they run faster by not having to load the adds. Only thing I'd advise is that the ...

Re: recovery from power failure

A primary cause of your confusion regarding the RPi's start-up is that it lacks a Bios program that runs automatically at reboot. On my PCs there is an option in the Bios where I can choose to have it wake up, or not, after a power failure. It is a feature of the Bios software. I leave it "off". Lac...

Just rec'd the power supplies in the mail. They are tiny...0.93"x0.7" x0.53, Hard to believe they are so small and have the capacity for a RPi zero and certainly for the Node0MCU I need to drive. They won't fit inside an official RPi Zero case but they could easily share one of the larger enclosures...

In the first place, you are probably putting too much time and effort into resuscitation of the existing uSD. Get a fresh one, download the latest Raspbian desktop and use Etcher to burn the new uSD. Save the old one and copy any important files to the new one. As stretch is now obsolete, you will b...

It might be easier to detect lightning than thunder. I think some of these exist for sale and are based on static RF spikes caused by lightening. The size of the spikes (amplitude) relates to the distance. Something really broadband like the old crystal sets tuned away from any broadcast sources mig...
