Re: Cannot find NAS drive in Plex app

I don't think Plex can work with networked drives, only local ones. At least when I've set up my server in the past (on a Pi3 via docker) it's never been able to access anything shared across the network, but works fine with anything local on the USB ports. Perfectly willing (and indeed happy) to be...

Re: Raspberry Pi blocked by corporate network

The Pi3 can be set up to boot/run from a connected hard drive. If it's just the use of an SD card as the storage device for the OS that's the issue (bureaucracy rather than technical) then that might give you a route to explore? Arguably booting that way isn't any more secure etc than using the SD c...

Re: Basic mp3 "music box" with Speaker phat

There are at least two plug-ins available in the Volumio plug-in store which will start playback on booting iirc.

Autostart and autoplay - both in the Miscellanea section of the plug-in lists.

Re: Dual Purpose External Hard Drive

You may be interested in the set-up I have on my desk - a Pi3 running HypriotOS and then using Docker I have a number of different applications running, including a Plex server, NextcloudPi, Calibre server and a TVHeadEnd server. All that paired with a 2TB WD drive (an old MyPassport) which is dual ...

Re: Bartop Cabinet...how to

Depending where you are, Pimoroni in the UK are a good choice for the first couple. Their PiCade board is more or less a one stop for the brains on top of the Pi, and they sell buttons and joysticks etc (and indeed a complete console or mini cabinet kit if you prefer to get everything and customise/...

OpenElec is a dead project - it hasn't been worked on in over a year. Try LibreElec, which is a fully supported fork of it (almost all of the OE devs left and formed it a few years ago). You can even update directly from OE to LE and keep all your settings and library etc. https://wiki.libreelec.tv/...

Thanks to all - looks like I've got a little more research to do over the weekend when I'm back in the country.

But there's a PiTop Ceed with a HD on my desk which I think would be very much ideal for this task... :)

Look at NextCloudPi - it's a fork of Owncloud and works fine on the Pi.

Re: Best PVR Software?

You can also set up a TVHeadend server under Docker on the Pi, either directly in Raspbian, under a more dedicated OS like HypriotOS or even in Kodi using LibreElec and their docker add-on (plus the linuxserver.io repo in the LE repo to get the TvH container). I've got TvH servers both under LibreEl...

Re: Recommended way to backup SD card image under Windows?

That maybe works for storing the image, but not for restoring to another SD card (of the same size) if the new one happens to actually be a few bytes smaller than the original. I've had this happen a couple of times and want to avoid it by just imaging the partitions rather than the whole thing. Plu...

Recommended way to backup SD card image under Windows?

I've a small question - what is the best / recommended way to take a back-up image of a Pi SD card using a Windows 10 machine? I've got a few Pi servers etc set up whose cards I would like to image in case of problems so I can just re-flash rather than having to set everything up again from scratch....

Re: Music Player with BT speaker and GPIO

I could be wrong, but I think Volumio has a Bluetooth manager plug-in available. Have a look in the plugins via the web GUI and see if you can install/enable that and if it works with your speaker? There are a few other people exploring this (as you say there's no "official" built-in support) but th...

Re: LibreELEC/Kodi 04/18 - Can CEC be disabled?

From memory, if you go to

System -> Settings -> System -> Input Devices -> Peripherals -> CEC adapter

(or something like that, under the Estuary skin) you should have the options page for CEC support, including the option to disable it.

Re: kodi does not start

Kodi is a media player, designed for playing locally stored files. It is possible to use add-ons which extend this, including some which support streaming media from various sources. These are available via the built-in Kodi repo, and can also be installed from 3rd party sources. The repo ones are c...

The "remote" IP address looks like a local internal one. Where are you trying to connect from? If it's outside that local IP domain then it won't work - you need to give the external IP address of your router (the one assigned by your ISP or whoever, not the 192.168.0.1 or whatever it's assigned on ...

Re: kodi does not start

Are you viewing the Pi directly (HDMI output to a monitor) or indirectly (via VNC or something like that)?

Due to how Kodi works to display its screen, the latter won't work in some cases even though it is running and displayed on a direct local display.

Re: USB video playback on my TV

The Pi won't be able to, as the TV almost certainly won't share the USB port to anything else connected to the TV (or indeed anything else at all). As noted above, most modern TVs with USB ports have video playback software (of varying quality) built in which can do the job directly. However there c...

You're going to struggle with any Kodi based set-up in that usage scenario, certainly for the extended stuff beyond volume and brightness. It's simply not what it is designed for. That said you may struggle to find any software solution which caters for that stuff for the same reason of it normally ...

Re: media center: volume control; contrast/brightness; EQ

Firstly you're a little out of date - OpenElec has been largely superceded by LibreElec, and RaspBMC has evolved into OSMC. If you go into Kodi's on-screen display there are brightness and contrast controls in there (under video stream in the settings menu), plus the volume controls you already foun...

Thank you for the reply! I read through the OSMC wiki about how to set things up but was unsure how things worked. I know it will index any video I have but was not clear if it would “import” the videos from a thumb drive or if it would index what is on the thumb drive and use it as a external USB ...
