Re: No key hook

Can you take us back a stage or two with more information? Is this a brand-new 'out of the box' RPi being booted for the first time? Or is it an established system that you have recently modified? What Operating System are you booting? Was it installed directly from an image file, or via the NOOBS i...

Re: Bringing rasberry pi to China

According to a recent blog post from the Raspberry Pi Foundation the Raspberry Pi is well known and available in China. If there is any difficulty taking yours with you it looks as though it would be easy to get one while you are there.

Try a Google search for "raspberry rtc" Lots of hits returned for information from sites like modmypi, adafruit, instructables and to previous queries on this topic on these forums.

Re: Project Guidance Please

This product provides a safe way to control mains-powered appliances from an RPi - https://energenie4u.co.uk/index.php/catalogue/product/ENER002-2PI The product has been mentioned in a blog post by the Raspberry Pi Foundation - http://www.raspberrypi.org/controlling-electrical-sockets-with-energenie...

Re: Trouble flashing

Perhaps hinting that you tell us the source of the file was too subtle? So I Googled for Xbian. From the main page at http://www.xbian.org I clicked on the orange button [[Download XBian]] and got a 404 Not Found page. Not very comforting. But I'm resilient... Used the Menu button on the main page, ...

Re: Trouble flashing

Two quick things to add to this saga. Firstly. If you are using Win32DiskImager to 'flash' an SD card image then using SDFormatter beforehand is probably redundant. It won't do any harm but it is unlikely to do anything to help. Secondly. What is the source of the supposed .img file (for Xbian) that...

Thanks for sharing.

You might like to point out that this depends on Pyro4, and that the version of pyro that is installable from the standard Raspbian repositories is v3.14

There is a link to Pyro4 here.

Re: beginner

At some time in the last 30 months everyone was a beginner with the RaspberryPi.

There is a lot of basic material on the RaspberryPi's own official site here. Once you have looked at a few of those resources you may be able to ask some more detailed or focussed questions if you still need help.

Re: Light Table - How to install

In general, the best place to ask about installing some specific item of software is on the website for that software. [Except for the simple case where a Raspbian package exists in the standard repositories, in which case all you need is sudo apt-get install <package_name_here> ] Also in general, i...

Re: 16x2 LCD I2C help

I have now tried the 16x2 LCD with I2C interface advertised for sale by Ryanteck Ltd. on my RPi running Raspbian. It works using the code linked from that page. The only thing I needed to add was a 4-way female-female jumper lead between the module and the RPi GPIO header. The display module seems t...

HDMIPI uses a 1280x800 LCD and therefor is not a "Full HD LCD"

Re: Has anyone used a Rand Mcnally GPS for a display?

The User Manual only refers to an optional camera. It doesn't say that it takes standard composite video input: although that seems to be the most obvious choice, they might have chosen some proprietary scheme to lock you into buying their own camera add-on module? Have you seen the bit on Page 3 o...

Re: Control dc motor using GPIO.PWM problem

If you and your collaborators have written all that code then you clearly know far more about python and network programming than I do, so I have nothing to add. But I'm surprised you didn't test it during development to see whether it was working. My own experiments have not been so sophisticated, ...

Re: 1080Pi - the First Full HD LCD add-on on Kickstarter NOW

Is it accurate to describe your venture as the world's first Full HD LCD add-on? The display described at http://hdmipi.com/ , which has already been funded by a completed Kickstarter campaign , also appears to be an HD LCD display for the RPi. There is no reason why there should not be choice and c...

Not in general. I do all my experimenting over a network using ssh, and have never had any issues with using GPIO connections that could be related to the network.

Re: Robotics basics

This seems so obvious that I might be missing the point... Have you considered using a 26 (or 40) - way cable to transfer all the P1 (or J8) connections to a breadboard in the first instance, and then make a 26 pin adaptor to plug into the breadboard to which you can connect the PiBrella? Alternativ...

Re: Data input and retrieval capabilities of Raspberry Pi

In my workplace there was a lower-tech version known as 'sneakernet' that involved carrying a box of floppy discs from one building to another. I recall visiting a Nat West data centre that was conveniently sited near the end of an airport runway. Reassuring to know the data was backed-up off-site! ...
