Re: TUTORIAL: Play or Encode High-Quality Video and Audio – with FFmpeg and mpv

By the way another nice feature of mpv and smplayer is that by toggling the keyboard command o ie oh you bring up via on screen display(osd) in sequence time elapsed /total time .visual progress bar and v to toggle subtitles. Many other niceities too numerous to mention. Incidentally back when I fir...

Re: TUTORIAL: Play or Encode High-Quality Video and Audio – with FFmpeg and mpv

Mike, it is great and greatly appreciated to have such a well written and sorely needed contribution on what should be a very important subject to to those of us who use their Raspberry Pi’s for multimedia. because MPV is at the moment probably the pre-eminent and best multi-platform media player es...

Re: Vivaldi Web Browser - Raspberry Pi

Thanks, rainer.brito I am glad you found my comments helpful! However much users may dislike the adobe flash plugin there are still many sites that only offer video content using the flash plugin so it is important for at least some users to have this plugin enabled. I have now been able to enable f...

Re: Vivaldi Web Browser - Raspberry Pi

It is welcome to have more browser alternatives for the Raspberry Pi and Vivaldi works well on Raspbian especially after it is configured to preference. One of the first things I noticed was that out of the box it only played Youtube videos using webm and google codecs vp8 and vp9 but not using mp4 ...

Re: Raspberrypi as mediaplayer

I just played your sample file with the Kodi media player I have set up in my Raspbian Jessie OS installation. It played smoothly no hiccups. However note that to play this DV codec you have to go into Kodi settings and enable mmal hardware acceleration by ticking the appropriate option. Kodi can be...

Re: Raspberrypi as mediaplayer

Just a quick reply: the sample video you referenced played easily and smoothly on my pi 3 using a number of different media players: gnome mplayer (gui) using mplayer as its' engine. It can be downloaded directly from the Raspbian stretch repository uses ~ 10-11% cpu vlc straight from stretch reposi...

Re: Google News- Miss the old version ?

Incidentally if you wish to search Google News and make use of filters as of old, the proper way to conduct the search now is not to search from Google News directly but rather to to type your query into the main Google search engine and then only after the results are returned to select the news ta...

For what it's worth( and I hope I don't jinx it!) but the user agent workarounds I mentioned in the original post are now working again (for the moment).

Re: Google News- Miss the old version ?

Not only is the referenced site down but as of today Google seems to have plugged all of the user agent workarounds. I can't understand why Google would go out of it's way to foist such a manifestly inefficient horrible design on its's users when they have responded with almost universal disgust. Se...

Google News- Miss the old version ?

For many years the first site I visited on the internet each day was "Google News" to get a quick overview and update on the state of the world ( such as it is :( ). A month or two back Google perhaps in keeping with the adage "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is". redesigned (aka ruined ) the " G...

Re: Raspbian Stretch (9.1) has arrived !!

Just about the first thing I do when setting up and customizing a new image is to install Synaptic graphical package manager as it certainly expedites the installation of new software . I have noticed on the new Stretch image when I select text in Synaptic the selected text becomes almost but not qu...

Re: Kweb Suite (Minimal Kiosk Browser, omxplayerGUI)

I just did a quick preliminary test of kweb on the new stretch image. Kweb3 would not load the youtube page. I tried different user agents found in utilities. Kweb did however load youtube. I will investigate further when time permits. Perhaps this problem may affect epiphany I didn't test.

Re: Corrupt SD card -- guide

A very quick gui-based solution for file system corruption that prevents rebooting and which worked for me is to use gparted, which is in the Raspbian repository. After many many months of using a very nice super fast sandisk extreme sd card -during which time I had regularly unplugged my pi wheneve...

A short addenda to my earlier post in case it wasn't clear: To add omxplayergui as a designated video player and engine for smtube you go into Smtube's menu: view/settings/players and add omxplayergui as a player and under parameters specify %u and make sure not to tick " this player supports video ...
