Re: VLC 3.0 with hardware acceleration

The new vlc is a wonderful addition to the repository and seems to excel at many things- the ability to play high def h264 in an infinitely resalable window is particularly nice. I notice also that vlc plays without a hiccup a high def 1080p youtube live stream eg. France24 ( thats still high def to...

Re: VLC 3.0 bugs

While video works great, there is a real problem with audio files. They take a long time to start (even minutes). VLC is doing something in the background which seems to take a long time. I fiddled around with a lot of settings but could not find anything which helps. When using MMAL (overlay) outp...

Re: Vivaldi Web Browser - Raspberry Pi

Until quite recently I have been able to play mp4 video found on websites such as youtube( using the h264ify extension). In recent versions of both Vivaldi stable and Vivaldi snapshot howevever I am unable to play mp4 videos.( Vivaldi's decoding abilities can be checked by playing the test videos fo...

Re: Smtube for quick efficient Youtube browsing

Hi, I succesfully compiled the latest version of smtube from source: http://sourceforge.net/projects/smtube/files/SMTube/18.9.0/smtube-18.9.0.tar.bz2. As I recall it compiled fairly quickly. To get the latest smtube to build however, required installing some extra dependencies in addtion to those me...

Re: Is Raspbian’s Chromium version too old to cut the mustard?

I am rather embarrassed to admit the reason I was receiving the pop-up on the aforementioned problem website telling me to disable ad-blocking was because while I had not enabled ad-blocking specifically in Chromium I had enabled an ad-blocker for all browsers by replacing my Raspbian default hosts ...

Re: Is Raspbian’s Chromium version too old to cut the mustard?

One strange thing about the updated Chromium in Raspbian is that the content settings have no ads configuration option whereas Windows Chrome has had an ads setting since version 64. it had ads option. In Windows Chrome there is an ads option in settings/advanced/content right below plugins. I do n...

Re: Is Raspbian’s Chromium version too old to cut the mustard?

Thanks for the updated Chromium! Strangely I can access that problem site via Chromium both old and new versions, if I use a user agent switcher extension( very useful tools by the way). I can also still access it via Raspbian Vivaldi and Windows OS’s Chrome browser even without a change in user age...

Re: Missing packages....that seem unlikely

I hesitate to offer advice to someone who knows thousands of times more about linux than myself but I recall running into a similar problem a while back. I usually do my system updates, upgrades, searches etc via the synaptic package manager. While trying to solve the conundrum I discovered many of ...

Re: Is Raspbian’s Chromium version too old to cut the mustard?

Great and thanks!. Yes I like Vivaldi as well, it's nice to have variety and choice. It's interface and tweaks to Chromium have certain advantages and I daresay disadvantages. I do note that it doesn't decode video in browser quite as efficiently as chromium. 1080p in Vivaldi stutters. buffers and l...

Is Raspbian’s Chromium version too old to cut the mustard?

Today I did an update/upgrade on my raspbian stretch system for the first time in about 10 days which included an upgrade to rpi-chromium mods. On trying to access via chromium browser, a reputable news(paper) site: http://nationalpost.com/ that I normally frequent without any problems, I am greeted...

Hi G. Click on the start/menu button then navigate to preferences, select raspberry pi configuration and then open the performance tab where you can allocate the amount of memory that will be solely devoted to the gpu/vpu and the balance of the pi's one gb of ram will be devoted to the cpu. You will have ...

Hi , I have run into this problem before and the solution is relatively easy. First check to see what version of Chromium you are running via settings about chromium. The most up to date version that is in the Raspbian repository is version 60.0.3112.89 If you find you are not running the most recen...

I don’t use the Raspberry Pi version of Firefox very much at the moment- a little too slow, but I like to know its’ there!
