Screen Application

I use the terminal multiplexer "screen" application a lot. I start a screen session in my rc.local at boot-up like this: su xxx -c "screen -d -m /usr/bin/python /mnt/usbdrive/pgms/mypythonpgm.py" where xxx is the user who will own the session. If I'm at a command prompt I start a screen session like...

Re: Installing RTL_433 software for my SDR Antenna

Folks, my RTL_433 system is working fine. However, now I want to make a change in one of the files and then make those changes "live". Do I need to repeat all of these steps:
  • cd build
    sudo cmake ../
    sudo make
    sudo make install
Thanks....RDK

Re: Error logs - pi stops, how do I find the cause

HTH….It took s bit longer for "Friday" to get here. In fact the Pi stopped again on the 5-th and I was busy with other things. I got to this project earlier today. Looking that SYSLOG, it might as well be written in Greek. I can see the last entry on the 5-th and the first for today, however the eve...

Error logs - pi stops, how do I find the cause

I've tried to search on this topic but have not found what I'm looking for. I have a Pi v2 running Stretch. It is running a python program in a SCREEN session. This system has been running continuously for over a month without any issues. Yesterday and again today, I found the Pi non-responsive, cpu...

Re: Installing RTL_433 software for my SDR Antenna

tvjon.....Thanks for the info. I have looked at your example and again at the GIT site. I see where you used the "autoconf" method as opposed to the "cmake". The GIT documentation call for a "make install" command at the end. I did not see this in your notes? I assume it needs to be run if I'm going...

Installing RTL_433 software for my SDR Antenna

I'm looking into using an SDR antenna to listen to some of my local weather sensors. It would appear that I'm not alone and that it is doable. However, I'm a bit of a "noobs" when it comes to installing and compiling software on my Pi. Here is a link (https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433) to the GIT ...

Using a Raspberry Pi to translate/transfer IP traffic from the incoming IP address to another

OK, this is a bit unusual, but we have two IPS supplied Internet address which are in the same subnet, for example 66.55.44.3 and 66.55.44.2. We have a router that does not like its WAN addresses to be on the same subnet. So, my question, can I configure a Pi to accept traffic on 66.55.44.2 and pass...

SD card with Stretch running on PiV3B, will it work on a PiB+ or PiV2

I've seen several posting asking if a SD card from a Raspberry Pi V2 or earlier V3 could be used on a newer Pi unit. I understand this question and the related issues. However, can a fully updated SD card with Stretch as the OS from a Raspberry Pi V3B be used on a Raspberry Pi B+ or a Raspberry Pi V...

Re: Networking Setup in Raspbian Stretch including a Bridge

SurferTim......I found the raspi-config configuration option for the network names. That worked and so did your bridging code, except I had to enable the denyinterfaces eth0 eth1 option in the /etc/dhcpcd.conf to get it to assign the static address to br0 and not to eth0 Also the line net.ifnames=0 ...

OK, so this is what I get for trying to be adventurous! Up until now I have always used the NOBS method for installing Raspbian on my Pi's. Boot script to check for dirty bit on USB stick or SD card

While not often, I do experience power outages which stop one of my Pis and then usually results in the USB stick having the "dirty bit" set. I know how to fix this manual sudo dmesg |grep sda1 ==> this finds references to sda1 in the message log. If I see that it has reported a dirty bit for sda1 t...

Re: Using command line code in a Python program, ie i2cset... or moreutils function ifne

Thanks. I have already installed moreutils on my PI. OK, these issues have been resolved. The issue around the configure.sh vs configure.bash has been fixed by the TCPFLOW developers. The file has been renamed to match the documentation. The "cannot create" errors after I ran the bash configure.bash file the second time were permission errors due to m...
