Re: How well does R-Pi perform as a mySQL server?

Databases like to use RAM, and Raspberry Pi doesn't have it much plus it's very slow DDR1. Also a forum means dynamic language which will use CPU to execute. Raspberry Pi won't handle such combo as efficiently as typical shared hosting. If you would want to use the database from another server then ...

Re: Should i get a Raspberry Pi

B has more RAM (512MB), and you can wait for new models for moths or years. The Pi CPU will have big problems handling so many services at the same time. Even more demanding web browsing will lag it. You can think about Android HDMI dongle (average Chinese quad core, 2GB RAM, Android 4.2), or if you...

Re: USB 3.0 Raspbmc install

With Berryboot you could install the OS on USB HDD/SSD of big size, but not that it will be limited in speeds to USB2, and may need powered USB HUB if it will be more power demanding.

Re: FPS for games

Thank's for your advice. I've tried phoronix benchmark such tests as openarena and vdrift but an erorr failed that tests aren't supported armv61. I've also tried such tools as GLXOSD,yokon, glmark2, mumble but has no results/ You would have to edit the openarena script for it to use system openaren...

Re: Can a third party produce their CM?

If someone would really want to he could trick other SoC on a COM to be similar in compatibility via some abstraction layer so that pins could match as much as possible (but that would be quite pointless and possibly very hard to make if at all). It would be much better to provide own COM module or ...

Remove serial.pyc file or __pycache__ directory if they exist.

Re: Help with 16x2 LCD

Those I2C backpacks are mostly for LiquidCrystal library (Arduino and alike). I didn't saw any nice library for such displays in Python. Adafruit LCD boards as far as I know share some if not all with those I2C Arduino LCDs so the code may work out of the box. The most easy would be a LCD via UART/s...

Re: Sony CMOS Sensor: SonyIMX179

I don't know what are your goals but wouldn't be easier and cheaper to get an OEM board from company like Point Grey, Ximea, IDS Imaging or Basler and provide additional hardware to make the final product?. Many sensors to choose from, good SDK, support, and some also have ARM support by default. I ...

Re: FPS for games

You can check phoronix benchmark tool and scripts used to measure FPS of games, like: http://openbenchmarking.org/innhold/652839d579baf09e66329e9490b3911a0dc5fa91 (http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com). In general the game must support some sort of replay or execution of given scenario as fast as it c...

Hi jamesh, Do you know a software /command in raspberry that can we convert a n images in a GIF "video" fast? The avconv and ffmpeg are too slow.. convert from imagemagick? http://www.tjhsst.edu/~dhyatt/supercomp/n401a.html but at some point you will have to use a stronger CPU or transfer images fr...

Do you use other Python scriptable boards with Pi?

I wonder how many people here used or are using other Python scriptable microcontroller boards with Raspberry? Like PyMCU connectable via USB, or MicroPython , or even plain USB-UART dongles to script UART devices with pyserial (including SerIO board, or some pololu servo/robots boards etc.)? It see...

Re: NO2 and SO2 sensors

There are various gas sensors, like the Chinese ones: http://www.dx.com/s/gas%2bsensor?PriceSort=up (also on ebay, local shops). If the board is 5V only then Pi would need logic level converter, but some should say they work at 3.3V too. I can't remember if I saw explicit NO2/SO2 sensors.

Re: USB Hard Discs and the Pi

I installed Raspbian via Berryboot on an USB HDD (laptop HDD + case) but I don't remember if I used powered USB from Atrix laptopdock or Pi itself (many laptop small HDDs has low power requirements so who knows). It worked, the benchmarked speeds were bit better than fastest SanDisk SD card I've tes...

Re: Banana pi, 1ghz duel core clone.

And at some point the Foundation will have to decide what is their new operation model. There are and there will be clones. Arduino likes them and wants them. That's why you can buy a Chinese version at a fraction of the cost or pick among many different boards that are Arduino platform compatible (...

Re: Banana pi, 1ghz duel core clone.

I bought some electronics from dx.com few times (China) and that Banana Pi website is typical Chinese case - you can get the product from one of their international stores but don't expect cool documentation, tutorials and whatnot. It's up to the community outside China to make it live (like pcDuino...
