Re: IP infringement?

Many shops sell Banana Pi, and I don't see anything wrong about it. They may put both in any category they want in general. Or maybe you expect Apple-alike legal actions ;)? Those even sued a.pl grocery shop as their domain is read almost like "appl" ;)

Re: Loading Pycharm

It's vastly better to run big IDE on a PC or laptop that have the resources for running it smoothly ;) Some time ago when I tried PyCharm didn't run correctly on Odroid X2 ARM.

Re: Knock knock, Microsoft is at the door.

It's designed to facilitate development of software and drivers for mobile devices that run Windows, such as phones, tablets and similar SoC platforms, although it can also be used for Android development. It's a very specialized product, not intended actually for general use. Other SoC makers ofte...

Re: infrared filter to make Pi NoIR to a regular camera modu

As a IR/UV cut filter you can use astronomical IR/UV cut filters which are easily available in astro stores near you ;) That picture above is a filter wheel carousel. Those are also use in amateur astronomy/astrophotography. For a color camera color filters in a color wheel have no point as such fil...

You can always execute Python script with "python thefile.py" then it won't have to be executable.

Re: PyCharm Development suggestions

I use PyCharm (the full paid version) and it can use interpreters via SSH. So it can index it and also execute code on the board. If you would use Linux you could use SSHFS to mount a folder from Raspberry as local folder on your PC and give it to the IDE (although it will be annoying to remount it ...

It would be more handy to do programming remotely and not battle with Eclipse on RPi ;) I got remote Python executable in PyCharm and I can remotely execute code I write from my laptop.

Re: $7 Arch Linux Arm Computer ??

It's very hard to make work on such "clusters". They need to communicate and that produces latency. Low processing power means that you would need a lot of them just to reach the computing power of a modern PC/laptop - and that only in software/tasks that can be easily paralleled / distributed among...

Re: Like Raspbian, but for desktops.

Raspbian works only on Raspberry. Debian is a base for it, as well as for Ubuntu. Most of the packages can be found in every of those distributions. x86 Ubuntu/Debian distributions will also have software that can't work on ARM (Raspberry). You can install that easily, it doesn't have to be preinsta...

Re: Like Raspbian, but for desktops.

You are probably referring to the desktop Ubuntu uses - Unity. LXDE is in Lubuntu and XFCE is in Xubuntu - which I use and recommend. Something more than XFCE is Cinnamon - found in similar LinuxMint. There is also Kubuntu with KDE4, but that's rather totally different than XFCE/LXDE more minimal ap...

Re: Why use a RPi at school?

RPi should not replace existing real PCs and laptops. Instead it should be used for things they can't do - like make a robot or something like that - something that will move, flash or display something with optional control from the laptop. Programming seems more fun if your code can move something...

Re: Controlling relay using a RPi and Android Tablet

You can use VNC-alike application on Android to get RPi desktop remotely and control everything from Raspberry. You can also SSH into Raspberry and control it from command line (or Android GUI app using that shell connection). Both cases assume they are in a network. Alternative option is to use she...

Re: Android tablet for pin access

There are even books about Android + Arduino. In your case you don't need Arduino if that RFID/NFC reader is the only device you want to plug in. USB/Bluetooth UART dongle is all you need (for serial communication). hm......... if you use NFC enabled phone or tablet then you won't need that RFID/NFC...

Re: New To Python

Python is not a Bash replacement. It can be more or less used to write scripts that do something on the system, but it's not always the best thing to do - depends what actually you want to do with it. And there is a lot of Python tutorials on the web and in book stores.

I see serial RX/TX on it. If it has all the features you need you can handle it even with the tablet using USB or Bluetooth UART adapter if you want to write an Android app... if on Raspberry then you can VNC the desktop to laptop or use something like Atrix Lapdock (HDMI screen, touchpad, keyboard)...

Basic RFID readers emulate keyboards. If you keep focus on a form field reading the tag will print its ID into that field and submit the form. Backend web application can then check if the code is valid and can be granted access :)

With the release of the Compute Module I expect we'll soon many products with "Raspberry Pi Inside" ;) . It's not the first COM, it's not the cheapest or it's not the most versatile - don't expect that much. Sherylbox dropped RPi COM in favour to Banana Pi - they really needed SATA for that cloud-s...

Tablet can SSH into RPi, or use another serial connection via USB or Bluetooth UART. Then you would get the terminal on RPi. Some VNC application would allow getting desktop on RPi.

If you need more power on the RPI (like for USB) then you will have to power it separately with stronger power adapter. Model B on its own will work, but like B + Gertboard was underpowered when powered from Lapdock.

Re: Should I buy a Raspberry Pi or a Banana Pi for Android H

My own view of the BPi is that is infringes all sorts of Raspberry Pi trademarks and copyrights (and therefore should not be available in the EU) , and is making money off other people efforts. Typical Chinese clone. But it's up to you where you spend your money... Well, crowdfunding a project with...
