Sharing data between python scripts through a LAN

Hi Python Masters, I have a bunch of Pi's running various python scripts in my house. They do a whole bunch of fun house monitoring jobs. For quite a while, I was passing data between them via a simple NFS server and just writing the information to text files. I have had issues with the number of wr...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I tried dropping the network link and it worked fine. This is baffling me. It was working before. I don't think there is anything wrong with your software. There is something up with my network. I think I will try a different approach. I will save the files onto the card in the camera then sync them...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Hi folks, Just wondering if anybody has ideas here? It seems to be sporadic. One camera is able to process the videos and convert to mp4 videos and the other never seems to do it. Wondering if it is because they are both saving to a common NFS file server but then again, this was never an issue bef...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I recently upgraded to the newest version on two cameras I have at work. I am saving the media files onto an NFS server via a symbolically linked /var/www/html/media file. However, since the upgrade, the MP4Box does not seem to be converting any saved videos. I have lots of .h264 files but no .MP4s...

Re: RPi as wifi access point - dual direction traffic

Does anybody understand IP tables and know why I can't access the clients on my wifi network from my hard eth0 network?

FYI, I did do this:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/sysctl.conf

net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
Thanks,

RPi as wifi access point - dual direction traffic

I set up my RPi 3 as an access point, and these are the iptables-rules I had and it worked just fine for traffic originating on a wifi device accessing the LAN (eth0): :PREROUTING ACCEPT [44:4003] :INPUT ACCEPT [25:2294] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [13:886] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MAS...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Hi Folks, Is there a way to intiate a timelapse image sequence at something like one every second using motion sensing? I am using this to record photos of birds. I tried setting the "Video fps" value in the "Resolutions" box to 1 fps and boxing to 1 fps but it seems to send the Pi into an unending ...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

Do the wires inside the connector look OK and nothing metallic has worked its way in to short anything? Everything on the underside of the board look OK? no bad solder joints or anything "funny" looking? The connector wires are perfect. This Pi has had a simple and comfortable life. Definitely no v...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

Ok. So I decided that the best way for me to see if there was an issue with my LAN was to take the Pi in question to my workplace and see if it worked there. I have Pi's at the office and they have always worked just fine. So, I did two tests; one with dhcp turned on in the Pi and one with a static ...

Lights on the Eth connector (act or link) = ok, maybe configuration issue. No light on the Eth connector = wrong, probably smsc phy died ?, we are looking forward to see if replacing the IC solve the problem at the moment we change the RJ45 jack and same thing , no lights up....., next step replace...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

When I type "arp -a" I see: ? (192.168.2.1) at <incomplete> on eth0 I see no evidence of .75 being used by other devices either on my router or by doing arp -a on my desktop, but I am going to pick another IP and try that anyway. I know my lan does not have loops.. Very careful about that. Right now...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

What is confusing me the most is that this issue just popped up on this one Pi that has been operational continuously since say November (and it had a IP assigned by my router) but I have not seen the issue on any of the other 12 Pi's (at least 4 of which were copies of that pi just with different I...

Yes, my router is 192.168.2.1

When I ping it from the Pi, I get "Destination Host Unreachable"

Re: eth0 not working anymore

You probably shouldn't use DHCP until you confirm the static IP works. First step would be to make sure the static IP sticks (after reboots) and you can always ping it from the Pi itself . No need to look anywhere else until this is achieved. So, the static IP sticks. I just did another reboot. Sam...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

If you cannot copy/picture this while the PI is offline, then let us know: 1. ifconfig (after you assign the static IP) - does it show the static IP? 2. pinging the IP address from the Pi itself - can you ping the static IP of the Pi (from the Pi itself)? Uploading photo. Yes, hard to copy off pi w...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

I turned off the static IP address and tried a reboot. Re: eth0 not working anymore

1. Please post ifconfig after you assign the static IP 2. Please ping that IP address from the Pi Ok, so for one (and only one) reboot cycle, I was online with eth0. Then to do what you ask above, I needed to get online from the Pi but I had rebooted already and lost the connection. The ifconfig lo...

Ok, I just tried another IP address (.75) and moved the pi {again} to another location and booted. This time the static IP worked and I can ping it.

What is going on?

Hi PPi, Please try: 1. Reload the card with the latest Raspbian 2. Disable WLAN interface (based on your information it's currently connected and sending/receiving traffic) 3. Configure eth0 with a static IP address from 192.168.2.0 network 4. Ping the IP address you just assigned to the Pi 5. Try ...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

Ok, so I built a new card and booted the Pi with no USB interfaces plugged in. Before I did anything, I looked on my DHCP server for any activity of a request for an IP address and there is nothing there at all. I know the mac address of the eth0 and there is no reference to it. I just plugged in my...

Ok, so I checked the DHCP logs on the DHCP server and there is no sign of the mac address of the Pi. I see lots of activity from my other machines. There are no "green" switches in my network. I have rebooted this thing without USB devices and with USB devices. No difference. No IP address requested...

Re: eth0 not working anymore

Prob not the culprit but to KISS redo your sd card with latest image but don't run sudo rpi-update as that is there for people who like living on the edge I did try to get a connection with a new install before updating the software but no dice. I may just try it again to make sure. I'll dig into t...
